    “College and Career Assist Coordinator”

    New Heights was founded in October 2005 as an independent non-profit organization in New York City. Our mission is “to educate and empower promising underserved youth to be leaders, champions and student-athletes by developing the skills necessary for success in high school, college and life.” We are located at the Major R. Owens Health & Wellness Community Center in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Our facility includes three basketball courts, three classrooms, offices, tutoring rooms, and meeting spaces.

    New Heights provides intensive, long-term support for promising young athletes from underserved communities to develop the academic skills, leadership abilities and character traits necessary to succeed beyond sports. Through our new home and programming, we will be expanding our services to impact thousands of youth annually, primarily in grades 4-12, through our College Bound and Community programs that include:

    • Travel basketball teams
    • Academic support, tutoring, counseling and workshops focused on social-emotional learning and life skills
    • High school preparation, guidance and placement services
    • College preparation, guidance and placement services
    • New Heights Summer Academy (an academic-athletic summer program)
    • Community-based clinics, leagues, camps, workshops and events

    The College and Career Assist Coordinator is responsible for supporting current high school student-athletes, college student-athletes, and alumni by building, maintaining, and tracking relationships with student-athletes, families, and partners. This detail-oriented role requires strong relationship-building skills and involves planning and executing engagement events, coordinating high school and collegiate visits, and assisting student-athletes through the high school and college application processes. This position is full-time, reporting to the Director of Programs, and expected to be onsite at our office in Brooklyn. The first 90 days will be five days per week in the office, and then potentially shift to a hybrid model with a minimum of four days per week in the office. Given the nature of the work, evening and weekend availability are frequently expected to accommodate student-athlete and alumni schedules.

    Primary Responsibilities

    College Assist

    • Meet with student-athletes and families to create individualized college plans.
    • Support high school student-athletes in the college application process including but not limited to completion of the CommonApp and seeking for financial aid.
    • Collaborate with school counselors and coaches to ensure student-athlete is meeting graduation and NCAA eligibility requirements.
    • Coordinate with the Education Manager to ensure student-athletes are receiving the required academic support (academic coaching and test prep).
    • Develop and implement SEL and life skill workshops for high school student-athletes.
    • Manage student-athlete information in Salesforce.
    • Attend high school student-athlete basketball games.

    Career Assist

    • Maintain a comprehensive communication strategy for engaging alumni.
    • Collaborate with the Communications Manager to use social media to engage alumni.
    • Cultivate opportunities to strategically engage alumni with the New Heights network (Board, Emerging Leaders Council, corporate partners and donors).
    • Develop partnerships with corporations and organizations to facilitate internship and job opportunities, provide career exposure and mentoring.
    • Meet with alumni in college to devise individual career plans.
    • Support alumni in developing professional skills and documents such as resumes, cover letters, interviewing skills, etc.
    • Host yearly networking events for alumni.
    • Manage alumni information in Salesforce.
    • Attend alumni basketball games.

    Qualifications/Requirements

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, sports management, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
    • Experience working with high school and college students, preferably student-athletes.
    • Knowledge of the college admissions process, including CommonApp, financial aid, and NCAA eligibility requirements.
    • Experience in career development, alumni engagement, or workforce readiness programs.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Strong relationship-building and communication skills to engage with student-athletes, families, school counselors, coaches, and alumni.
    • Ability to develop and facilitate SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) and life skills workshops.
    • Experience planning and executing engagement events, networking opportunities, and career development programs.
    • Proficiency in Salesforce or other data management systems to track student-athlete and alumni engagement.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills to balance multiple responsibilities.
    • Ability to collaborate with internal teams

    Availability & Work Environment

    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends to accommodate student-athlete schedules and attend events, including basketball games.
    • Willingness to travel for high school and collegiate visits.

    Salary and Benefits:

    • Salary compensation range depending on experience and qualifications: $57,500 - $65,000 annually
