Overview: Sea Change Yoga (SCY) seeks a heart-centered and human-first leader to serve as the next Executive Director of this growing organization dedicated to increasing access to healing-centered yoga for people living in systemic oppression.
SCY provides trauma-informed yoga practice within the community to remove financial, physical and cultural barriers for people of historically marginalized communities, creating spaces where every person is honored and celebrated. Through 80+ classes/month, Sea Change Yoga’s team of teachers serve incarcerated adults, people in recovery from substance use disorder, people in transitional/ supported housing, New Mainers, youth, older adults, and people living with mental illness.
The Executive Director position will be a great fit for someone who is energized by connecting with others and is passionate about yoga as a pathway for all people seeking tools for healing and hope for the future. The SCY Board and staff hope to find a leader who shares the organization’s collective values and integrates these values in their management style; is able to coalesce teams of people; has a track record of successful fundraising; has strong communication skills and the ability to relate to community members from all walks of life; and has a familiarity with the multi-functional role that a small nonprofit executive director serves.
The ED serves as the key management leader, working in collaboration with the full-time staff of two, team of yoga teachers, and active board of directors to ensure the excellence and success of SCY programs and operations. They are responsible for long-range planning, outreach and fundraising, support and development of staff and teachers, human resources, board support, and financial management.

- Passion for Sea Change Yoga’s mission to increase access to healing-centered yoga for people living in systemic oppression.
- Attributes of a service-oriented leader, including the ability to listen to understand others, empathy, compassion, collaboration and inclusiveness, stewardship of resources, commitment to the growth of their team, and confidence to lead and operate outside of traditional power structures.
- Understanding of trauma-informed practices and the populations served by SCY through lived or professional experience. Experience in restorative or social justice, direct support services, or similar fields is a plus.
- Track record of successful fundraising experience, including major gifts and grant securement; an established network for fundraising desirable.
- Nonprofit administration experience and familiarity with the many roles and responsibilities required of a small nonprofit executive director. Experience managing mission-focused teams, nonprofit budgeting and finance, boards of directors, and human resources is ideal.
- Ability to think and plan strategically, implement a strategic plan and operating plans, and engage staff, teachers, board, partners and community members in working towards and supporting our vision.
- Strong equity orientation: actively practices DEIB and anti-racism; a willingness to reflect on personal bias; an awareness of the limits of one's own perspective; and a culturally humble stance in relation to others.
- Experience managing teams of people with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, roles, and responsibilities, and the leadership capabilities to collaborate, delegate, coach, and support individuals in their growth.

- Entrepreneurial spirit: comfortable working in a continually evolving and multi-faceted environment; skilled with charting a new course and supporting others to be flexible and thrive in their work.
- Personal relationship to the practices of yoga and/or meditation and an appreciation for the healing power of these practices.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills, including public speaking ability and proficiency with current digital communications tools.
- Familiarity with current digital office tools, donor databases, and bookkeeping systems.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- In collaboration with the SCY staff, teachers, and board, develop and implement strategies and actions that work to fulfill the organization’s strategic objectives.
- Lead by example to embody Sea Change Yoga’s values and uphold its culture of inclusivity, collaboration, trust, and transparency.
- Support Sea Change Yoga staff and contracted teachers and enable team members to contribute their skills and talents in the pursuit of Sea Change’s goals.
- Develop and support a strong Board of Directors by engaging and empowering board members in their governance and volunteer roles, administering committees, maintaining transparent communications and information-sharing practices, and assisting board officers in fostering a culture of leadership and service.
- Work with the Program Director to ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, and identify and cultivate future program partners
- Oversee organizational communications including public relations, website, social media, publications, etc.
- Develop operational plans and budgets needed to achieve strategic goals, and monitor the progress of SCY’s strategic plan implementation.
Fundraising
- Serve as the organization’s lead fundraiser by ensuring the development of a sustainable and growing income through a diversified fundraising program.
- Expand SCY’s base of donors (annual and major gifts) through thoughtful engagement, cultivation, solicitation, and retention strategies.
- Assist the Board President in developing a strong Board fundraising culture and engagement opportunities.
- Manage all aspects of SCY’s grant- and sponsorship-seeking efforts.
- Be the face of Sea Change Yoga in the community.
- Effectively communicate our vision and success stories to various constituencies.
Nonprofit Administration & Finance
- Ensure outstanding human resource management, volunteer engagement, finance and administration, and organizational systems and procedures.
- Develop policies, procedures, and staffing/HR requirements.
- Manage organizational systems and programs (e.g., Quickbooks, Bloomerang, Google Drive)
- Ensure the overall financial health, fiscal integrity, and compliance of the organization.
- With guidance from the Treasurer, Executive Committee and Finance Committee, manage appropriate fiscal controls, procedures, and reporting (internal and external).
- In partnership with the Board of Directors, develop and manage the annual budget.
- Understand and communicate relevant financial information to constituencies.
