    Description

    The Center for Transnational Environmental Accountability seeks a dynamic, self-motivated individual to contribute to its work related to accountability for social, environmental and climate impacts of Chinese and other overseas investments.

    About CTEA

    The Center for Transnational Environmental Accountability is dedicated to supporting communities impacted by international investments, particularly in the extractives sector. It does this by working with organizations based in countries where such investments are taking place, and building the advocacy and legal capacity of attorneys and local activists. It has worked with partners in Africa, Latin America and Asia using national information disclosure laws, administrative procedures and regulations, as well as national and international environmental and climate policies and law, to pursue investor and governmental accountability. CTEA established a China Fellows Project to develop the legal and advocacy capacity of attorneys in partner organizations and schools, and to establish a network of legal professionals able to collaborate in pursuit of environmental and climate justice. It is in the process of establishing a Critical Minerals Accountability Alliance of NGOs working in this area.

    About the Position

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Communications

    • Oversight of CTEA’s digital communications, including developing and maintaining CTEA’s online presence
    • Prepare/edit content for CTEA’s website (to be launched) and social media platforms
    • Maintain CTEA’s website content and ensure content is up-to-date
    • Stay abreast of digital communications trends, developments and opportunities

    Project support

    • Work with CTEA staff on programmatic work, including working directly with partner organizations to arrange, implement, and report on project activities
    • Support the preparation of reports and the development of fundraising proposals
    • Monitor project implementation to ensure compliance with timelines and budgets
    • Keep colleagues and project partners informed and engaged
    • Identify potential problems and propose solutions
    • Maintain project documentation and oversee compliance to ensure deliverables are presented on time and of the required quality
    • Schedule and participate in meetings with partners

    Other work as may be assigned by CTEA’s Executive Director

    Qualifications/Requirements

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, with clear, concise and persuasive writing style, and the ability to create engaging and impactful content
    • At least one year’s experience supporting an organisation’s digital communications
    • Experience with major social networking sites, such as X (Twitter), Meta/Facebook, and LinkedIn
    • Experience with information sharing and IT safety and security issues, working in an environment where data security and the welfare of individuals are paramount
    • Competent user of IT packages, e.g. Google Drive/Microsoft Office
    • Ability to meet multiple deadlines and handle several projects at one time
    • Commitment to the pursuit of corporate accountability and environmental justice
    • Excellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
    • Authorization to work in the US (including OPT)

    Preferred additional qualifications

    • Knowledge of international human rights and environmental law, corporate and governmental transparency and accountability issues
    • Experience with Squarespace and/or WordPress
    • Search engine optimization experience
    • At least one year project management experience
    • Familiarity with extractive industries/critical minerals, biodiversity and climate change
    • Knowledge of, and/or experience working in, Africa and/or Latin America
    • Graphic design experience
    • Experience working with people from diverse cultures and commitment to social, environmental, economic and climate justice
    • Other language skills are a plus, in particular French, Chinese and/or Spanish

    Experience gained through internships can be counted towards required experience.

    The position is currently remote, and will involve international and domestic (US) travel.
