Location: Preferably Panajachel, Guatemala but applications to work remotely will be considered.

Position Overview

The Development Manager works closely with the Development Director to steward individual and corporate donor engagement and solicitation and the organization’s two annual fundraising galas. The position reports into and works closely with the organization’s Development Director. This role is responsible for helping meet annual fundraising benchmarks via galas, appeals and other forms of solicitation. The role relationship manages a set of donors and works closely with the Development Director to meet fundraising goals around our two annual galas via supporting work with host committee members and honorees, direct outreach to a set of prospective attendees, and by managing gala logistics.

Mercado Global seeks a Development Manager who is enthusiastic about the opportunity to help expand a cutting-edge model for fighting poverty and empowering women in rural Latin America. He/she/they should have strong self-initiative and leadership capabilities, strong interpersonal and communication skills, good attention to detail, experience in relationship management and project or events management, and a passion for our mission and work.

This position is preferably based at our field office in Panajachel, Guatemala but applications to work remotely will be considered, and reports directly to the Development Director.

Key Responsibilities

The Development Manager role is responsible for meeting fundraising benchmarks through the following activities:

Donor and Board relationship management and support

• Manage a set of individual and corporate donor relationships below a certain giving level,
• Manage Development Associate on donor research as needed,
• Support Development Director in management of the Board’s Development Committee, Special Projects Committee, and Strategic Advisory Board,
• Identify and organize Mercado Global presence at industry networking events and conferences.

Gala and event management and support

• Support Development Director in working with host committee members, honorees and sponsors,
• Manage outreach to a set of prospective sponsors below a certain giving level,
• Manage ticket sale outreach,
• Supervise Development Associate on implementation of gala logistics.
• Supervise Development Associate on implementation of logistics on small events.

Development Operations Management

• Oversee Development Associate’s maintenance of salesforce, closed reports, and other development operations tools,
• Assists Development Director with staff hiring and onboarding as needed.

Key Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Excellent planning, critical thinking and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to move multiple projects forward simultaneously.
• Three to five years experience and demonstrated success with relationship management.
• Three to five years experience and demonstrated success in project, logistics and/or events management.
• Some managerial experience is preferred.
• Ability to work in a team setting and communicate effectively. Ability to receive and incorporate feedback.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to top-quality, self-driven work.
• Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish strongly preferred.
• Enthusiasm for Mercado Global's mission.
• Flexibility, drive, sense of humor, and prior experience living long-term outside the U.S.
• Fluency with Microsoft Office and Excel required. Experience working with a CRM systems required. Knowledge of SalesForce a plus.
• Ability to make two-year commitment to this position.
