    About Us

    Help a Mother Out (“HAMO”) works to improve baby and family well-being by increasing access to diapers for families in need. We distribute diapers through a network of social service partners operating within diverse communities, service models, and geographic focus. We also advocate for the inclusion of diapers in the social safety net. Since 2009, we have distributed over 68 million diapers, primarily in the Bay Area metropolitan region.     Position Summary

    Help a Mother Out seeks an experienced, detail-oriented, and energetic self-starter to be our Community Engagement Manager (CEM). They will be primarily responsible for managing individual giving campaigns, special events, marketing and communications, and development operations systems. They will work in close partnership with colleagues to contribute to the organization’s mission, both internally and externally. The CEM will report to the Director of Operations.

    This is a dynamic part time role for someone who has excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills, as well as experience bringing people together for a common purpose.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Fundraising & Events

    • In partnership with leadership and board, manage the event production of HAMO’s annual Tea fundraiser (Fall 2025). Duties include managing event logistics, e.g., weekly planning meetings, online ticketing, host/attendee/venue coordination)
    • Manage donor stewardship and community engagement initiatives
    • Volunteer management, in partnership with the Program Manager
    • Represent HAMO at corporate engagements and volunteer events
    • Identify/elevate emerging opportunities for engagement with our community stakeholders (individuals, corporations, schools, etc.)

    Marketing & Communications

    • Key role in creating communications for fundraising and community engagement initiatives
    • Work with the team and graphic designer to produce marketing materials (print/digital collateral)
    • Support the production and dissemination of a regular stream of digital content (e.g., photos, videos, audio, written) for HAMO’s social media (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, Twitter), using existing systems (editorial calendar, style guide)
    • Produce donor newsletters (MailChimp)
    • Make ad hoc updates to the website

    Development Operations

    • Manage annual appeal and donor mailings including mail merges, material procurement and production, and mailing preparation, in partnership with the Director of Operations
    • Manage digital platforms for fundraising campaign
    • Assist with donor database administration, data entry, reporting, and systems management
    • As needed, log donations from diverse revenue streams in Salesforce
    • Coordinate donor thank you notes/emails and tax receipts

    Miscellaneous

    • Serve as an ambassador for HAMO, raising awareness about our work in the community and representing the organization at community events and fundraisers
    • Assist with advocacy outreach efforts on as needed basis
    • Respond to telephone, email, and other requests for information from the public, donors, potential supporters, constituents, and partner agencies
    • Communicate with colleagues and stakeholders on a daily basis via email, phone/text, and in-person
    • Other activities deemed appropriate by management that will promote and enhance our mission

    Qualifications

    • Exceptional interpersonal communication (oral, written, nonverbal)
    • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, accountability, and follow through
    • Proficient in data entry and skilled at systematizing processes. Experience with Salesforce or a similar donor database is strongly preferred
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Asana, Dropbox, Squarespace, Mailchimp or similar software systems
    • Working familiarity with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite
    • Proficiency at working via hybrid office and in-person in the community
    • Adept at working with people from diverse backgrounds, including staff of partner organizations, program participants, cross-functional team members, board of directors, donors/volunteers, funders, and those with varied political or world views

    Position Requirements

    Ability to perform the duties described above. A typical means of acquiring those abilities would be:

    • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
    • Relevant work experience may include, but is not limited to, the following:
      • Event planning or project management
      • Marketing, communications or public relations
      • Nonprofit development operations, individual giving, volunteer management

    • Valid California driver’s license and have reliable transportation to travel to various locations as required by the job, primarily within Oakland/San Francisco; and Alameda, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Contra Costa counties
    • Able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs., occasionally

    Office and Hours

    • Our office is in Oakland (near Jack London Square) and the team convenes in person as needed
    • Company hours are 9 am–5 pm, with some flexibility. Your part-time schedule will be set in collaboration with your manager
    • The Community Engagement Manager will regularly attend in-person events. Additional hours, occasional nights, and weekends as needed

    Compensation
