    Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) is a workforce development organization dedicated to preparing, training, and placing women in skilled construction, utility, and maintenance trades industries in the New York City metropolitan area. Through comprehensive training, education, and job placement initiatives, NEW has successfully transformed the lives of countless women while advocating for policy changes that support gender diversity in the workplace.

    Position Overview

    The Human Resources Manager is responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding/offboarding, benefits administration, performance management, employee relations, policy development, recordkeeping, employee training and staff events.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee onboarding, offboarding, training and development and performance evaluations
    • Establish new and streamline existing HR processes
    • Review, manage, and maintain accurate job descriptions for all positions within the organization
    • Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors/team leaders, referring complex and/or sensitive matters
    • Create policies and systems that ensure diversity, equity and inclusion across the organization
    • Provide coaching and mediation to employees on matters related to their role and performance
    • Responsible for distributing policies through an Employee Handbook and other documents
    • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and recommend best practices
    • Develop long-term strategies and key initiatives to help team members flourish in their roles

    Qualifications and Experience

    The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and flexible. They will possess excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working with a variety of people at all levels (internally and externally). They will also possess the ability to take initiative, work independently in a high-paced environment, multi-task, and prioritize responsibilities. NEW seeks candidates with the following qualifications and experience:

    • B.A. or B.S. degree preferred
    • 5 years of Human Resources experience
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Strong communication, writing, and research skills
    • Ability to anticipate needs and prioritize, work in a fast-paced team environment, and meet deadlines
    • Discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
    • Warm, energetic, and customer care
    • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.) as well as social media and other online platforms
