    Description

    The Immigrant Learning Center is hiring a Communications Specialist to work as part of a three-person team (specialist, designer and director). The composition of the workload will be fluid and subject to change according to opportunities and projects that arise. There is also room for taking initiative to create projects of your own.

    How this position relates to our mission:

    • Americans are being flooded with a rising tide of misinformation about immigrants. The communications specialist will work with The ILC Public Education Institute to create and disseminate content that accurately and effectively educates Americans about immigration.
    • The communications specialist will help The ILC English language program leverage the expertise of our teaching staff to create online materials that can reach immigrants and refugees anywhere who are struggling to learn English.
    • None of our work is possible without funding. The communications specialist will support the development department in sharing compelling stories about our work.

    Position Reports to: Director of Communications, on-site at our offices in Malden, MA, with some work-from-home flexibility.

    Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Work with the team to develop communications strategies that engage a wide range of audiences
    • Adopt The Immigrant Learning Center’s voice/tone across a variety of content
    • Interview adult students to capture their stories for sharing
    • Create content for website (WordPress) and Google Ads while staying on top of analytics and SEO. We have just begun redesigning the website, so you will need to contribute to the new vision while maintaining the current site.
    • Manage social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube)
    • Email marketing (Constant Contact)
    • Write for print newsletters, brochures etc.
    • Research best practices and measure results
    • Administrative or other tasks as assigned by director of communications.

    Must-Have Qualifications:

    • U.S. work authorization
    • 2+ years relevant experience
    • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
    • Desire to make the world a better place demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience working on an issue you feel passionate about
    • Ability to create effective content for a variety of media in a non-academic setting
    • Attention to detail, including grammar, spelling and adherence to style guide. You will be primary proofreader.
    • Respect for goals, deadlines and budgets. You need to meet concurrent deadlines by setting priorities, organizing time, and identifying resources and assistance as needed
    • Strong collaborator and team member, able to work independently and take initiative
    • Commitment to continuous improvement. You seek feedback and offer it freely and respectfully

    Desirable Qualifications:

    • Solid understanding of SEO principles
    • Experience managing professional social media accounts
    • Familiarity with current trends in social media, email marketing, etc.
    • Experience with WordPress
    • Experience with Constant Contact marketing platform
    • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Illustrator)
    • Strong visual literacy
    • Strong interpersonal skills and a good sense of humor

    Compensation:

    This is a full-time, non-exempt position with an annual salary of $55,000 to $60,000and paid vacation and sick time.
