    About Philadelphia Financial Scholars (PFS):

    Philadelphia Financial Scholars is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high school students and their families with financial empowerment education. We believe access to this education is critical for overcoming systemic economic barriers and creating generational wealth. Through our programming, we aim to make students more employable and help them build solid financial foundations.

    Position Overview:

    The Financial Empowerment Education Specialist will support the implementation of financial education programs across Philadelphia public schools. As our organization grows, this specialist will add vital capacity to enhance our programs’ impact. This part-time role (10-15 hours per week) is designed for a passionate and experienced educator with strong ties to the Philadelphia public school community. The role requires the ability to support both teachers and students in personal finance education, entrepreneurship, and investment programs, as well as lead adult financial empowerment workshops. The role will also support implementation of a high-quality summer career exploration program for high school students. The Financial Empowerment Education Specialist reports to the Program Director and works closely with the entire PFS Team.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • In-Classroom Support: Provide direct in-class implementation support to personal finance teachers in participating Philadelphia schools.
    • Teacher Mentorship: Monitor and support teachers leading student enrichment programs in Entrepreneurship and Investing, offering guidance and troubleshooting as needed.
    • Workshop Facilitation: Facilitate Adult Financial Empowerment Workshops for parents, caregivers, and the broader school community, empowering families to achieve financial success.
    • Program Monitoring: Collaborate with school partners to ensure the successful delivery of financial education programs, collecting and providing feedback for continuous improvement.
    • Professional Learning Community Facilitation: Coordinate and facilitate discussions among educators to share best practices and strategies, with a focus on enhancing student outcomes and financial education curriculum across participating schools.
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain strong communication with school partners, teachers, and community members to foster engagement and program success.
    • Special Projects: Assist with additional duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Strong connections to Philadelphia public school communities and demonstrated commitment to educational equity.
    • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
    • 5+ years of teaching experience, preferably in personal finance, business education, or a related subject area.
    • Experience facilitating professional development for educators and/or community workshops.
    • Familiarity with personal finance content, curriculum, and resources.
    • Ability to work independently, managing time and responsibilities effectively across multiple school sites and programs.
    • Passionate about empowering students and adults to build financial capability and achieve economic independence.

    Physical Requirements:

    Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required

    such as:

    • Traveling to offsite meetings – valid driver’s license and/or access to transportation when necessary.
    • Functioning in office space — reaching file cabinets, filing, faxing, scanning, coping, typing, mailing, making phone calls.
    • Must be able to sit for up to two hours looking at a computer monitor, using a keyboard/mouse and typing.
