    Connecticut Financial Scholars

    We believe access to financial empowerment education is critical to overcoming systemic economic barriers. The Connecticut Financial Scholars (CTFS) program includes curriculum and professional development to support in-school learning for Personal Finance classes in high needs schools across the state. In-class learning is complemented by investing and entrepreneurship enrichment programming, a paid summer internship program, and adult-focused workshops for the teachers, families, and caregivers of our students.

    Position Overview

    The Program Director is responsible for supporting secondary school educators by offering guidance on instructional strategies, enhancing curriculum, and creating professional development programs that enhance content knowledge and allow for collaboration among educators.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    • Curriculum support for secondary school educators at participating schools
      • Curate a recommended Scope & Sequence to share with partner teachers
      • Provide coaching services to educators during classroom visits or remote learning sessions
    • Design professional development programs (both virtual and in-person) to increase the content knowledge and collaboration among educators in districts CTFS serves, at times collaborating with Next Gen Personal Finance (“NGPF”) on content and for technical support
    • Ensure program model is effective at the school level by creating systems to monitor program success, solicit school leader feedback, and project-manage pilots to test specific innovations
    • Lead special projects to address high priority programmatic needs; projects may include afterschool workshop enrichment, school or citywide student showcase opportunities, scheduling, and student supports
    • Lead parent financial empowerment workshops designed to complement curriculum being used in the classrooms
    • Disseminate regular newsletters to key stakeholders
    • Perform additional duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

    • Passion for financial education and a belief that all students should have access to high quality, engaging personal finance instruction before graduating from high school
    • Experience developing and leading professional development sessions
    • Ability to effectively coach and lead teachers in professional learning communities
    • Familiarity with multiple personal finance curriculum providers, especially NGPF
    • Familiarity with National and CT State financial literacy standards, guidelines, policy initiatives, and community efforts related to financial well being and workforce development
    • 4+ years of experience teaching personal finance or a personal finance related course as an elective or embedded within another course
    • Entrepreneurial mindset or private sector finance work experience
    • Bachelor’s Degree required
    • Fluency in Spanish (written and verbal) preferred

    Physical Requirements:

    Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required

    such as:

    • Traveling to offsite meetings – valid driver’s license and/or access to transportation when necessary.
    • Functioning in office space — reaching file cabinets, filing, faxing, scanning, coping, typing, mailing, making phone calls.
    • Must be able to sit for up to two hours looking at a computer monitor, using a keyboard/mouse and typing.
