    Description

All Kings Project Inc. is seeking an experienced Communications Specialist to design and manage an internal and external communications strategy for our growing organization.

    The Organization

Founded in 2019, All Kings is a diverse, intergenerational peer-led community that supports the emotional well-being and develops the leadership of men involved in the criminal legal system and young men at risk of being involved. All Kings works across race, generation, sexual orientation and class lines. Our 400+ members currently range between 18 and 82 years old. Two thirds are formerly incarcerated; some are investment bankers and successful executives. All are connected in a journey to define what masculinity means to them in the context of a world that has limited their emotional growth and self expression. At All Kings, members focus on their mental and social well-being, healing from trauma, increasing their emotional intelligence, supporting each other, expressing their leadership, and contributing to the world in a wide range of roles.

All Kings provides transformative weekend retreats, weekly circles, and the development of member facilitation and leadership skills. We teach the practice of emotional awareness and compassionate conversation using a peer-led format that is attractive to men–many of whom reject, or have difficulty accessing, clinical forms of therapy. We help men discover their innate power and purpose and build lives of meaning on a foundation of emotional literacy, authenticity, accountability, positivity, and connection to others.

    The Position

All King seeks a visionary and experienced communications professional with a demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, and well-being. Responsibilities will include development of strategies for internal and external communications, including management of the website, all print and electronic publications (newsletters, brochures) and our social media.

Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Communications Specialist is a newly created position on a team that currently includes three full-time and six part-time staff members. Much of the daily work is done remotely, and the programs we deliver are usually in person, with a remote component. Applicants can expect to work an average of 4-6 days a month in person.

    Primary Responsibilities and Duties

    • Develop, implement and evaluate an annual communications plan across our stakeholder audiences: members, prospective members and colleague organizations, funders, policymakers and decision makers in related fields.
    • Lead the generation of online and print content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action. Decide who, where and when to disseminate.
    • Manage the development, design, distribution and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including but not limited to newsletters, brochures and the website
    • Coordinate webpage maintenance–ensure that new and consistent information (article, links, stories and events) is posted regularly
    • Track and measure the level of engagement within the network over time
    • Manage all media contacts

    Qualifications:

All Kings is seeking an accomplished Communications Specialist with at least 5 years of diversified communications experience covering website content, newsletters, social media, and donor communications. The ideal candidate is well-grounded in a range of social justice issues, with a special focus on racial justice, reform of the criminal legal system, mental health, leadership development, and building up communities’ capacity to meet the needs of their residents. Personal experience with transformational practices is highly desirable.

    • Experience building brand, message and audience on Tik Tok, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
    • Experience create visual and verbal identity of an organization
    • Experience collaborating across staff and membership through story collection and creation.
    • Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies
    • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communications skills, including active listening and giving/taking feedback
    • Strong track record as an initiator and implementer who thrives on managing a number of key initiatives concurrently
    • Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to “manage by influence”
    • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
    • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, members and other supporters
    • Self starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
    • Skilled at generating and editing photography and videography
    • Content management across multiple social media platforms including Instagram and LinkedIn.
    • Experience using Canva to design IG posts, Twitter event fliers etc.

We aspire to have peer-led men’s mental health services as ubiquitous in the NY City community affected by the criminal justice system as are twelve step meetings in addiction communities. If you think you can tell the story of the life or death necessity of community support, rites of passage, positive masculinity and multi-racial solidarity and healing this is the home for you.
