    BACKGROUND

    The Mass Audiences Team is responsible for raising over $3 Million annually and also functions as the Integrated Channel Marketing Team during our transition period of growth. Orbis is investing in growing the base of the donor pyramid, which is an exciting time to join the team and a great opportunity to contribute to mass market and direct response fundraising.

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Direct-Response Marketing Manager manages the development, execution, and analyses of offline and some online marketing campaigns. This role will oversee the day-to-day management and implementation of direct mail fundraising campaigns and the face-to-face channel in addition to supporting the digital channel. The Direct-Response Marketing Manager will integrate insights from all channels and make strategic recommendations to grow mass market fundraising in the US market. This role will also manage the execution of the other audiences’ campaigns, taking use of the various marketing channels to ensure cohesive voice and smooth processes.

    LOCATION

    This is a US-based remote role. For those who prefer to work in an office setting, our NYC office has temporary and permanent desk solutions for employees already local to NYC that can accommodate those preferences. Access to other Orbis offices may be provided.

    Orbis’s current policy requires that all staff visiting the NYC office must be vaccinated against COVID-19.

    REPORTING & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

    The Direct-Response Marketing Manager reports to the Director, Mass Audiences; works closely with the Senior Manager, Digital Fundraising; collaborates closely with Global Communications; connects with Orbis employees at headquarters in New York and on the Flying Eye Hospital (FEH), and liaises with colleagues in HQ and in Orbis’s global offices.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

    • Provide strategy and tactical recommendations to various audiences (Mass one-time donors and recurring, Midlevel, and Major) as a channel expert and as someone who understands donor and messaging segmentation.
    • Implement large-scale marketing and fundraising campaigns across all channels to meet and exceed annual targets. This includes mail proofs, data select instructions, mail/digital art and copy, F2F reports and optimizations, etc. Approve list exchange/rental requests, ensuring their alignment with Orbis’s ethical policies.
    • Ensures brand and messaging guidelines are correctly implemented in all donor communication.
    • Project management by editing and routing strategy documents, copy, and art to Orbis’s various audiences and ensure all marketing materials across channels are routed to the appropriate parties within our extensive review and production process.
    • Assist in managing the budget for mass audience activities, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and adherence to financial guidelines.
    • Support budgeting and investment allocation with channel and audience expertise.
    • Create compelling content tailored to different audience segments, ensuring alignment with brand and Orbis’s mission and goals.
    • Work closely with internal and external partners, including our agency of record and Communications to ensure seamless integration of Orbis’s message.
    • Some light administrative work required - scheduling, agendas, notes, coordination with the agencies, file organization and samples, etc.

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
    • 5+ years of progressive work experience, including 2+ years of experience in integrated channel marketing and fundraising.
    • Experience with integrated channel marketing management and audience segmentation.
    • Fundamental understanding of marketing best practices and segmentation/audience management.
    • Marketing and donor cultivation experience at a nonprofit.

    SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • Strong background in direct mail, digital marketing, and face-to-face canvassing.
    • High level of project management skills, managing down, sideways, and up.
    • Excellent reporting and analytics skills.
    • Extremely detail-oriented to ensure quality standards are met while also meeting deadlines.
    • Excellent oral and written communication.
    • Ability to work in a collaborative environment as a team lead and member.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage deadline pressure.
    • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Budget management experience.
    • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
    • Proficiency in English is required. Additional languages are an asset.
