    Description

The Redress Movement is seeking a strategic, mission-driven Director of Development

to support its groundbreaking work addressing and remediating deep and longstanding

    systems of segregation.

The Director of Development will manage all aspects of the organization’s fundraising

and development program, ensuring it has the resources necessary to work in

partnership with communities across the country to promote and secure remedies for

intentional and ongoing segregation. This role will be responsible for conceptualizing

and executing a robust development strategy focused on grant writing and reporting, the

stewardship of existing major donors, and establishing relationships with new donors.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development will work closely with

The Redress Movement’s leadership and Board of Directors to leverage networks,

cultivate new relationships, and facilitate donor engagement opportunities. The Director

will be a thought partner to the Executive Director in planning and funding the

operations and strategic growth of The Redress Movement.

The Director will be a talented communicator who can build relationships with individual

and institutional donors, develop systems and processes around donor stewardship and

grant management, and bring a proven record of thoughtful leadership.

This is an incredible opportunity to play a pivotal leadership role in a trail-blazing,

growing organization that is dedicated to healing our nation by redressing the harms of

    the past.

    The Redress Movement’s History

The Redress Movement, founded in 2022, partners with local communities to redress residential segregation.

The Redress Movement initially emerged in response to Richard Rothstein's book, The Color of Law, which documents the intentional laws, covenants, and processes that created housing segregation, along with other seminal works published in recent years. Awareness of these truths, coupled with the unprecedented participation of 20 million Americans of all races and ethnicities in the spring and summer of 2020 in Black Lives Matter demonstrations, convinces us that a new movement to redress racial segregation is possible, if only we work together to organize it.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that supports the organization’s ambitious vision and goals, in partnership with the Executive Director
    • Cultivate relationships, facilitate engagement opportunities, and solicit contributions from new and existing donors, progressive organizations, and foundations
    • Lead donor prospecting and identify grant opportunities that align with the mission and values of The Redress Movement
    • Establish and grow a monthly giving program, increasing communication, engagement, and resources from sustained supporters
    • Lead the comprehensive grant process, including reporting and compliance, in collaboration with key staff
    • Draft compelling donor communications, email updates, and reports that drive engagement and support fundraising goals
    • Lead strategic development projects from ideation to execution, including campaigns, donor initiatives, and fundraising systems
    • Manage cross-functional projects with internal and external collaborators (e.g. consultants), ensuring timelines and goals are met
    • Use creativity to design and test new fundraising strategies, campaigns, and donor engagement tools
    • Design and execute fundraising campaigns with compelling storytelling and multi-channel engagement strategies that inspire donor action
    • Lead and optimize digital fundraising initiatives, leveraging email, social media, and online platforms to grow and diversify donor engagement
    • Prepare reporting that analyzes the metrics of fundraising campaigns and initiatives

    Key Qualifications and Attributes

    • Demonstrated commitment to racial justice, civil rights, and to The Redress Movement’s mission
    • 5+ years of experience in fundraising or a related leadership role, preferably in a 501(c)3 organization
    • Demonstrated success in securing grant awards and major gifts, and managing and growing a fundraising portfolio
    • Experience building strong relationships with institutional and individual donors and prospects
    • Experience with donor management systems, particularly Givebutter or similar customer relationship management (CRM) software, with an ability to maintain accurate records and leverage data for strategic decision-making
    • Experience leading the entire grants process, including drafting grant proposals and reports
    • A strong command of fundraising best practices and demonstrated success building processes and donor management systems to track and steward donors and gifts
    • Outstanding and persuasive communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to successfully tailor messaging for various audiences
    • Excellent listening skills, and an ability to engage with a diverse group of partners and prospects in a thoughtful manner
    • Sound judgment, trustworthiness, and the ability to manage confidential information
    • Excellent project management skills with a high level of attention to detail, and a focus on results
    • Strong writing and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborators – including staff, Board, and consultants – to meet key deadlines and deliverables
    • Creative thinking, with a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset
