    Description

    The Association for Psychological Science (APS), a DC-based scientific organization with a small staff and a collegial, collaborative culture, seeks a highly-organized and detail-oriented individual to support its work as a member of the Scientific and Public Affairs (SPA) Team. This is a full-time opportunity for someone with excellent communication skills and demonstrated experience prioritizing tasks and facilitating multiple projects.

APS members around the world include leading scientists, scholars, educators, and students. APS publishes six highly respected journals, convenes scientific conventions and workshops, publishes a member magazine and related digital content, and has a broad public outreach and policy advocacy program that raises the visibility of APS members, their research, and the psychological science field as a whole.

    About the Position

    The Coordinator supports ongoing Scientific and Public Affairs (SPA) programs and contributes to APS-wide initiatives by supporting and facilitating communication and collaboration with other APS programs.

    Specifically, the Scientific and Public Affairs Coordinator:

    • Provides logistical, administrative, and technical support for webinars, workshops, and podcasts. This may include, but is not limited to:
      • Tracking invitations and communicating with guest speakers/presenters/interviewees
      • Creating and monitoring schedules
      • Creating events in APS’s membership platform, Zoom, or other event platforms
      • Collecting speaker bios, and drafting and editing program descriptions
      • Posting program descriptions on the APS website
      • Coordinating announcements and event-related emails with the APS Marketing team
      • Ensuring event-related materials are shared with all relevant staff in a timely manner
    • Assists in developing, implementing, and/or conducting workshops/professional development or other member-serving programs.
    • Provides logistical, administrative, and technical support for in-person events at the APS Annual Convention and any virtual events related to government affairs.
    • Assists with preparation of grant applications and proposals.
    • Assists with identifying and publicizing funding opportunities and policy developments of interest to APS members.
    • Identifies and shares information about funding opportunities for psychological scientists outside of the US.
    • Attends meetings (internal and external) as directed and needed to gather information and report back to APS staff.
    • Produces reports on psychological science and policy for presentation to APS leadership and membership.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree; psychological science or related scientific field preferred; background with government affairs a plus
    • Enthusiasm for psychological science
    • Exceptional and demonstrated writing skills
    • Ability to communicate diplomatically in writing and verbally
    • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple assignments and meet deadlines
    • Desire to learn new things
    • Ability to work well with others in a hybrid work environment.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
    • Competency with technology; experience with WordPress or other content management systems a plus
    • Excellent interpersonal, problem resolution, and teamwork skills

    • Sound judgement
    • Two-years of professional work experience desired

    The Scientific and Public Affairs Coordinator is a member of the Scientific and Public Affairs team and reports to the director of Scientific and Public Affairs.
