    Description

    GOKiC, www.gokic.org, is a POC-led nonprofit organization. Our mission is the liberation of BIPOC youth through technology and mentorship by developing decolonized tech education programs to nurture community leaders.

    The Educator Assistant for Geeking Out Kids of Color will primarily help the Educator(s) onsite with several duties such as, but not limited to, curriculum building and scaffolding, teaching, youth and family engagements such as recruitment, showcases, relationship building, and communications as directed by their lead. Professional development is an ongoing expectation of this position and may lead to opportunities as a full Educator.

    Educator Assistant (Hybrid, mostly in-person - South Seattle/SeaTac, WA)

    Part Time: up to 16 hours per week

    $22-$25 / hour

    Start date: As soon as possible

    We encourage college students to apply! This role is primarily works afterschool & afternoon.

    Responsibilities

    Assistance with Teaching - 60%

    • Assisting with preparation for in-person classroom activities.
    • In-class teaching, leading students through various activities and providing structure at a pace that considers all students’ capacity to follow along at the direction of their lead.
    • Reflecting on that day’s classroom session, marking moments of celebration and areas of opportunity for improvement and growth.
    • Assisting with attendance tracking and narrative-writing.
    • Assisting with classroom management.

    Curriculum Development 20%

    • Working with other educators in creating a program for subsequent classroom curricula under the supervision of an experienced lead.
    • Testing curricula for the purposes of ensuring high standard of quality and enjoyment.
    • Participating in “teach-ins”, in which team members demonstrate mastery over a chosen topics to their peers.

    Youth and Family Engagement 5%

    • Recruitment of students to enroll in our programs.
    • Showcasing our programs’ successes.
    • Taking photographs and/or videos of programs in progress.

    Professional Development 10%

    • Attending workshops (usually virtual) in which team members will learn emerging skills helpful to performance of role.
    • Readings on topics that parallel our mission and help create disciplinary breadth.
    • Growth and Empowerment Process

    Administrative 5%

    • Responding to and composing work-related emails
    • Being part of regular all-staff meetings
    • One-on-one progress and debriefing meetings

    Core Competencies

    • Cultural competency (know positionality within classroom environment),
    • Basic knowledge of computing and coding
    • Basic knowledge of critical race theory
    • Foundational knowledge of teaching techniques and classroom management
    • Knowledge and skills to support social emotional development in children
    • Basic knowledge of child development
    • Ability to set deadlines, plans, and goals, and follow through.

    Preferred Education, Experience, Abilities

    • Available roughly 15 hours between 2-7pm with some additional morning availability preferred.
    • Must have interest in working with multicultural youth who are overcoming intersecting barriers to success.
    • Spanish-speaking candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

    GOKiC staff are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless a medical or religious exemption has been approved. Philosophical exemptions are not permitted. As a condition of employment, newly hired employees will be required to provide proof of their COVID-19 vaccination.

    • generous paid time off (base accrual rate of 6% of paid hours);
    • paid holidays (4 weeks of company holiday and 11* federal holidays, *if a federal holiday falls during company holiday the day is still only paid once)
    • after 3 months, a 401(k) retirement plan, with an employer blanket contribution (not just a match!) of 5% of your salary
    • monthly transportation stipend ($120 for those working at least 16 hours per week, $60 for those working less than 16 hours, but at least 4 hours per week)
