    Job Description: Project Coordinator

HUD Tenant Education and Outreach (TEO) Program

    10/22//24

The Massachusetts Alliance of HUD Tenants (MAHT), a tenant-controlled alliance of resident organizations in government subsidized housing, seeks an experienced Project Coordinator to help plan, market, and coordinate MAHT’s role in the HUD-funded Tenant Education and Outreach (TEO) program. HUD has awarded MAHT, jointly with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), a five year, $10 million Intermediary Grant to subcontract to local tenant and community-based organizations in Project Based Section 8 housing, through the provision of 30+ multi-year subgrants to build tenant capacity nationwide. MAHT’s role is to market, screen and recommend to AHF eligible subcontractors and to provide training and support to grantees and tenants.

Founded in 1983, MAHT has saved and improved more than 13,600 apartments at risk of conversion to market rents, as permanently affordable housing, including 1,400 in resident-controlled ownership, one building at a time, through tenant organizing. MAHT is one of the most accomplished HUD Section 8 tenant organizing groups in the US.

MAHT has pioneered creative, pro-tenant policies at the local, citywide, statewide, national and global levels, by empowering tenants to Save Our Homes. MAHT currently staffs Leaders and Organizer for Tenant Empowerment (LOFTE), a national Network empowering federally-assisted tenants in dialogue with the Administration and Congress to advance tenants’ rights.

    Responsibilities Include:

    Tenant Education and Outreach Program:

Help plan and implement MAHT’s marketing and outreach strategy for the TEO program, including:

Marketing the TEO funding opportunity to eligible tenant and community-based organizations, through social media, MAHT website and listserves

Conducting outreach to other relevant organizations regarding the TEO funding opportunity and coordinate marketing to their respective networks.

Help design subgrantee application requirements and application portal according to HUD provided criteria and MAHT’s TEO project design

Help screen, review, evaluate, and make recommendations for eligible subgrantees to the primary grantee, AIDS Healthcare Foundation

Help develop, schedule, and facilitate training sessions with subgrantees, including:

Monthly training webinars and meetings (Zoom)

Field Training visits to newly-formed subgrantees (at least one field training per major subgrantee over five years)

Quarterly check-in calls with each subgrantee

On-call technical assistance for subgrantees and Section 8 tenant leaders

Help develop, schedule, and facilitate an annual in-person Tenant Training Conference for all TEO subgrantees and emergent tenant leaders. The conference will include issue and skill workshops, in-person roleplay workshops, and plenary sessions with HUD officials.

Collect, analyze and summarize quarterly performance reports from subgrantees

Serve as administrative liaison with the primary grantee, AIDS Healthcare Foundation
