    About the Position:

    The Assessment & Data Associate (ADA) is a critical position for the functioning of the school. The ADA reports to the Director of School Quality (DSQ) and works closely with school administration and instructional staff.

    The Assessment & Data Associate is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of assessment data and systems so we can best evaluate our student performance. The ADA will serve as the LEA Test Coordinator during statewide assessments, as well as manage internal assessment systems; work with instructional staff to use assessment systems and their reports; and facilitate the collection and use of school-level data.

    This is a 12-month position which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the

    provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

    The responsibilities of the Assessment & Data Associate include:

    Assessment Coordination

    • Manage internal, online assessments, including, but not limited to, NWEA MAP Growth, NWEA MAP Reading Fluency, Teaching Strategies GOLD
      • Ensure accuracy of student/staff data and timeliness of system set up.
      • Train teachers on using systems to administer assessments and run reports
      • Serve as point person for system-related questions.
      • Report data regularly and in a timely fashion.
    • Serve as LEA Test Coordinator for statewide assessments, including, but not limited to, DC CAPE assessments.
      • Stay current on testing regulations, guidelines and best practices.
      • Maintain accurate records of registration, accommodations, testing activities and results.
      • Ensure all deadlines are met and state policies and procedures are followed.
      • Train staff on statewide assessment procedures and testing integrity requirements.
    • Collaborate with DSQ and campus leaders to administer common internal and state assessments.

    Data-Informed Culture

    • Support teachers and campus administration in living our Vision for a Data-Informed Culture.
    • Ensure accuracy, quality and timeliness of data.
    • Provide training and support to staff around assessment and data literacy, so they may utilize reports, dashboards, visualizations, etc. to inform instructional and programmatic decisions.
      • Develop resources for best practices for using data.
      • Facilitate or support “data dives” with instructional staff.
      • Provide individual support for teachers as needed.
    • Work with our external contractor, EmpowerK12, to ensure data visualizations are accurate, timely, and meet the evolving needs of our organization, including, but not limited to, campus-level needs, Capital City’s strategic plan, and external accountability systems.
    • Build and maintain school-level data rosters to report various student performance data, consulting with DSQ and administrators to meet individual school needs.
    • Work with the SIS team and outside vendors, as needed, to manage the data necessary to support visualizations.
    • Serve as point person for staff questions related to dashboards.

    Reporting and Accountability

    • Validate assessment data for both the statewide and charter school board’s accountability frameworks, consulting with the DSQ on reporting.
    • Work with DSQ to share student performance data with various stakeholders, including, but not limited to, instructional staff, senior leadership, the Board of Trustees, and the school community.
    • When requested, respond in a timely way to provide data and its context to other departments within Capital City, and agencies outside of Capital City (with senior leadership approval.)
    • Attend meetings and review policy documents to understand the policy landscape and requirements related to assessment, data collection, and reporting.

    Desired Qualifications

    Minimum required qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant technical experience
    • Proficiency in Excel and/or Google Sheets, specifically, a comfort with advanced features and functions, such as pivot tables, lookups, index match, countif, conditional formatting, etc
    • Experience, skill and interest in cleaning and manipulating data; and presenting data analysis in easily understandable formats for diverse audiences (educators, families, external audiences)
    • Keen attention to detail
    • Ability to take initiative and work both independently and in a team setting
    • Ability to collaborate with and support colleagues in understanding and using student data
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; good analytical skills and ability to communicate requests, gather and process information quickly and accurately, solve administrative problems
    • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships across a wide variety of individuals and groups
    • Commitment to diversity and equity and experience working with diverse populations
    • Positive attitude, patience and flexibility

    Additional qualifications:

    • Experience within a K-12 school setting and/or test coordination a plus
    • Experience automating data processes
    • Experience with SQL and data visualization
    • Basic understanding of descriptive statistics

    In addition to the above requirements, staff members must meet the requirements of all hires at Capital City including a criminal background check.
