Overview
Bridges is a youth-development program that is committed to the long-term success of Baltimore City youth and to providing life-changing opportunities to independent school students. Bridges currently works with 798 young people – 440 Baltimore City youth ages 9-23 and 358 independent school volunteers – at four program locations in Baltimore. Bridges plans to grow to eight program locations serving 1,400 Baltimore City youth and independent school volunteers. The Opportunity
Bridges is seeking candidates for the role of Communications Specialist. Under the leadership of the Senior Director of Advancement, the Communications Specialist will create a wide range of content to support Bridges’ external affairs work, be a standing member of the external affairs team, coordinate Bridges’ News Team, and be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks.
- Grant Writing & Reporting: With support from the Senior Director of Advancement, the Specialist will write grant applications and reports for a wide range of foundation and individual donors, using organizational and program data to provide accurate and timely insights to the work being done across Bridges. The Specialist will pay close attention to funder requirements and requests, as well as deadlines and schedules, using Bloomerang (donor and grants management software).
- Marketing & Communications: Manage and produce marketing and communications content, including (but not limited to) the Bridges’ website, social media, newsletters, brochures, presentations, and other documents used to communicate with stakeholders. The Specialist will ultimately be responsible for coordinating the external affairs calendar, final edited social media posts, and final drafts of student stories and newsletters to various audiences.
- News Team: Coordinate and serve as a member of the Bridges News Team, which includes members from each of Bridges’ program sites and divisions, to identify compelling student stories, photos, and videos to be used for Bridges’ marketing and communications work.
- External Affairs: Serve as an active member of the External Affairs Team, which includes Bridges’ Executive Director, Chief of Staff, Senior Director of Partnerships, and Senior Director of Advancement. The Specialist will be able to effectively gather information from various systems and parties to produce strong written and design work for multiple audiences, meet deadlines, and assist with events and programs related to external affairs.
- Administrative Responsibilities: The Specialist will have general administrative responsibilities including maintaining their calendars, managing their e-mail, coding and submitting business expenses, participating in quarterly full staff meetings, etc.
Ideal Candidates
- Have an undergraduate degree
- Have 3-6 years of work experience in a relevant field with a track record of success. Candidates with less or more experience are welcome to apply.
- Have strong written communication and editing skills and an interest in using those skills to write in a variety of styles for a variety of audiences
- Have strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines and work both individually and with a diverse team
- Are able to communicate effectively and in a culturally competent manner with a range of stakeholders, including supporters and funders, parents, students, school administrators, etc.
- Have an interest or experience in design
- Can form strong relationships with a range of people regardless of background
- Keep an attitude of optimism and positivity in their work
- Are proficient in workplace technology including e-mail, text, Microsoft and Google suite, and the ability to adapt to other tools as needed
Details:
- Compensation: The salary range for this full-time role is $55,000-$70,000 commensurate with experience.
- Benefits: The holder of this role will have access to a full benefits package (medical, dental, & vision insurance; retirement with employer matching; FSA options; paid vacation, sick, & holiday time; auxiliary insurance; meal benefit; etc.).
- Supervision: This role reports to the Senior Director of Advancement.
- Start Date: We look forward to bringing someone on during spring ’25.
- Location: This role will be based at our office in Baltimore, MD, with some hybrid workplace flexibility, and occasionally require meetings at various locations in the metropolitan region.
- Hours: This 40-hour-per-week role will typically follow traditional business hours. Presence at some evening and weekend events will be requested throughout the year.
