    Sixth Street Community Center is a community-based not-for-profit organization founded in 1978 and committed to advancing social, environmental, housing, economic and racial justice in the East Village and Lower East Side community. We believe that people of all backgrounds and incomes in New York City have the right to a safe, clean, and healthy environment and have their basic needs met with dignity and respect. Our mission is as follows:

    • Provide emergency services and act as an emergency hub in response to community crises around extreme weather, food shortages and economic insecurity.
    • Expand food access and affordability of fresh, organic, locally farmed foods to neighborhood families and promote sustainable food systems through our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program and urban farming workshops.
    • Educate/ train youth and teens about equitable urban living, sustainable urban agriculture and climate justice action empowering them to become active and engaged climate leaders.
    • Engage our diverse community through outreach and organizing on critical environmental justice campaigns. We strategize and advocate for community led solutions that address the root causes of the climate crisis.​

    Job Summary

    Sixth Street Community Center (SSCC) is seeking a passionate, mission driven team-builder to fill the role of Development Manager. In this part time role, you will be responsible for and reporting to the Executive Director to advance the strategy and execution of growing the organization, including fundraising, building relationships with donors, and maintaining our programs to achieve the organization's mission.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Fundraising:
      • Develop and execute fundraising plans and campaigns.
      • Identify and cultivate potential donors (individuals, foundations, corporations).
      • Write grant proposals and manage grant relationships.
      • Organize and manage fundraising events.
      • Grow and manage donor relations and stewardship.
    • Relationship Building:
      • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, board members, and other stakeholders.
      • Represent the organization in a professional and positive manner.
    • Communication and Outreach:
      • Develop and implement communication strategies to promote the organization's mission and programs.
      • Create and maintain a strong online presence.
      • Develop and distribute publications and reports.
    • Financial management:
      • Manage finances for different programs at the organization.
      • Managing actual income and expenditures within program budgets.
      • Manage and pay bills on time.
      • Manage payments to contractors and vendors for program operations.
      • Financial forecasting and budgeting of cash flows for months ahead.
    • Data Management:
      • Track and maintain donor information and fundraising performance.
      • Analyze data to identify trends and improve fundraising efforts.
    • Strategic Planning:
      • Develop and implement strategies for organizational growth and sustainability.
      • Conduct needs assessments and identify opportunities for growth.
      • Develop and implement programs to address community needs.

    Pay: $30-40/hr depending on experience.

    Part-Time, up to 20 hours per week.

    Contracted Position at least 4 months, with opportunity to grow/extend.

    Anticipated Start Date: Late April/ Early May 2025, ideally by May 12, 2025
