    Family and Community Engagement Coordinator

    Global Village Project

    Position Summary:

    The Family and Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for contributing to the care, safety, well-being, and education of the students at Global Village Project by engaging their families in their education. This position also supports the Director of Education in building and maintaining community relationships that enhance the mission of the school.

    This role leads efforts to enhance student outcomes in the classroom by bridging the relationships between home, school, and community. This position will report to the Director of Education.

    Responsibilities:

    Student and Family:

    • Implement strategies to support positive student interactions and social and emotional learning; use restorative practices throughout the school day to support student learning
    • Welcome and support families and partners at GVP and promote collaboration with families and within community;
    • Provide information and resources to parents and referrals (as needed) to refugee agencies that are requested by the family;
    • Build relationships across other refugee-serving agencies around the county and state
    • Co-lead all aspects of the new student recruitment and intake process, including: sharing new student intake processes and timelines with other refugee-serving organizations (e.g. resettlement agencies), coordinating all aspects of student intake meetings with families, caseworkers, the Education Team, and the Operations Team, and ensuring efficient and clear record keeping;
    • Co-lead all aspects of enrollment procedures in collaboration with refugee agencies and members of the Student Engagement support team, including coordination of Enrollment Day each August;
    • Coordinate logistics, scheduling, interpretation, and translation services for student and parent meetings, communication and conferences working closely with the Education and Operations teams;
    • Communicate and problem solves with families to address any challenges with students, including attendance, behavior, and/or conflict at school;
    • Facilitate and lead Family Council once per semester and serve as a staff liaison to family stakeholder groups.

    Documentation and Record Keeping:

    • Work closely with the registrar to support and complete updates and required documentation related to student residency including residential address, relocation information, family contact information, and legal documents including I-94s, health insurance cards, etc. in compliance with school records law;
    • Collaborate with Director of Education, School Counselor, and Registrar to create student reports, assist with parent outreach related to student concerns, home visits, and documentation of activities and other similar duties as assigned to support the Social Emotional Learning program;
    • Support student record collection and retention, including documentation of student attendance and field trips for grant reporting purposes (such as RSIG and RYMP);
    • Foster and enhance student and family understanding by attending Education Team meetings, Student Success Team (SST) meetings, pre- and post planning, family conferences, and other relevant meetings as needed.

    Other:

    • Maintain a clean driving record and collaborate with the Operations team to provide transportation support for Mentor and Alumni programs, and other GVP family and student programming as needed (i.e. Family Enrollment Day, Family Days, etc.);
    • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of GVP's Core Values (respect, responsibility, kindness, appreciation, and lifelong learning); adhere to the mission and vision of GVP, following principles of DEI and maintain alignment with GVP’s Staff Culture Agreement;
    • Relate in a positive way, both verbally and physically, to children, parents, and co-workers;
    • Follow safety regulations, policies, and procedures; and actively contribute towards promoting a safe environment;
    • Perform basic first aid as appropriate, which may include CPR; report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect in accordance with state laws and agency policy.

    Required Qualifications:

    • 3-5 years work experience, preferably with refugees/immigrants and/or in a school setting
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Strong organizational skills including proficiency in using email, spreadsheets and multiple online and offline channels to convey information
    • Ability to coordinate multiple projects, relationships and priorities at the same time
    • Ideal candidate is a problem solver, takes initiative, can work independently and with little direction as well as collaboratively as necessary
    • Multiple languages is a plus

    Preferred Experience:

    Job Type: This is a full-time, (non)exempt position that will be primarily onsite at our school in Decatur, GA.
