Hope Community enriches the lives of the people who live and work in East Harlem and surrounding neighborhoods through economic development, cultural arts, and social services partnerships.

    In addition to developing new and rehabilitating existing affordable housing and owning and operating over 1,250 units of affordable housing, Hope Community strives to transform East Harlem’s social fabric by supporting resident- and community-facing programs that enhance lives and contribute to the growth of local businesses.

    Hope Community utilizes a hybrid work environment, with staff in our East Harlem office 3 days per week and remote 2 days per week.

    About our Resident Services Team

    Through our Resident Services Team, Hope provides support services to our residents to help them stabilize and maintain their homes and improve their overall quality of life. Current programming includes Hope Connects and Harlem Strong, respectively, as we have prioritized an assess-and-refer social services program and coalition-based mental health referral campaign.

    About the Resident Services Coordinator Role

    Reporting to our Director of Resident Services, the Resident Services Coordinator will work in partnership with a committed team leading and executing this programing. The Resident Services Coordinator will provide a variety of case management-related services to individuals and families throughout Hope Community’s portfolio. In addition, the Resident Services Coordinator help advance a variety of workshops intended to build the self-sufficiency skills of Hope tenants, as well as organizing community-building celebrations including, but not limited to: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other events and activities exclusively for Hope tenants.

    Key Responsibilities of the Role

    Resident Engagement & Support

    • Build and maintain relationships with Hope residents and provide short-term case management and referrals as required.
    • Provide timely and accurate information and outreach that will encourage linkages between residents and community organizations (e.g., police precinct councils, block associations, and community boards)

    Partner Management

    • Actively develop and maintain relationships with representatives from other community-based organizations and non-profit businesses in East Harlem.
    • Work in partnership with existing neighborhood, block, and tenant associations.
    • Assist families with intensive needs including obtaining financial, physical, and mental health, as well as other activities which contribute to an improved quality of life.

    Case Management and Referral Services

    • Conduct an Initial Assessment for all individuals referred to or engaged by Hope’s Resident Services department; update the Assessment for existing residents on a regular schedule as agreed upon with the Deputy Director for Resident Services.
    • Proactively engage residents with significant rental arrears; identify and link to Hope-sponsored workshops and community-based organizations that help residents pay arrears and or increase tenants’ ability to pay their rent timely and regularly.
    • Develop service plans that will support self-sufficiency, housing stability, and an overall healthy living environment for individuals and families in affordable housing.
    • Assist residents with services which might include, but are not limited to, completing Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP applications and recertification.
    • Complete Housing Connects and other housing applications, as well as assisting with certifications required to maintain housing, as needed.
    • Identify and develop linkages with appropriate community-based organizations that provide services intended to increase self-sufficiency skills for individuals in affordable housing.
    • Coordination of services with the maintenance and property management departments
    • Provide referrals as needed.
    • Attend Tenant Association meetings when appropriate.

    Other

    • The Resident Services Coordinator may be required to work late shifts as needed or assigned to outreach residents who are employed or otherwise challenging to engage during normal business hours.
    • Occasional weekend work may be required to coordinate, lead, or participate in holiday events, workshops, and or other activities related to enhancing the ability of residents to maintain their homes and enhance their quality of life.
    • Participate in ongoing education and professional development through courses, seminars and other in-service training related to their area of expertise, case management, or other relevant business-related areas.
    • Attend and participate in all required team, staff, or other meetings.

    Qualifications for the Role

    • Associates degree, Bachelor degree. Master’s Degree in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, or related field, preferred.
    • At least two years of experience in homeless population, mental health and substance use and working with low- and mixed-income population.
    • Knowledge of HRA, SNAP, Housing Subsidies such as Section 8, Cityfheps, etc
    • Commitment to recognizing residents’ knowledge and experience as a valuable resource.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Knowledge in data collection and analysis.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication, working collaboratively a team environment with diverse cultures and multiple perspectives and lines of authority, and develop effective working partnerships with religious, education, and community groups and institutions.

    Salary and Benefits

    Salary for the role is $45,000 to $50,000.

    25 days of vacation + sick leave (which increases after the first year of employment), plus 11 paid holidays.

    Hybrid work schedule, of 4 days a week in our East Harlem office and 1 day remote.
