    About PAIR

Partnership for the Advancement and Immersion of Refugees (PAIR) equips refugee youth to navigate American society, reach their academic potential, and become community leaders through educational mentoring programs. PAIR works with newcomers from shortly after their arrival in the United States, through high school graduation and beyond.

    Position Details

In response to recent trends in refugee resettlement as well as shifts in types of ESL support provided by HISD partner schools, PAIR recognizes the need to provide high quality content supporting newcomer students’ English language learning. PAIR is seeking a professional with experience in ESL teaching and curriculum development to assist PAIR in reviewing and revising existing content, developing new content, and facilitating a pilot program focused on English skill development for middle school youth. The pilot program is a partnership with HISD’s DYAD classes – weekly enrichment workshops that take place during the school day.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Facilitate weekly DYAD workshops in HISD partner schools, focusing on English development and topics in cultural exchange.
    • Develop weekly curriculum for the DYAD classes, with guidance and input from the middle school program team.
    • Work with the PAIR middle and high school teams to revise existing ESL content for after-school programs and develop new content.
    • Collaborate with PAIR Program Directors on student progress evaluation tools and metrics.

    • Candidates will be required to undergo a background check with fingerprinting

    Additional Requirements

The position requires on-site work at partner schools and/or community locations, and at the PAIR office for training and professional development. A successful candidate will be enthusiastic about youth work or education and comfortable working with a diverse and multi-cultural group.
