    ABOUT C5LA

C5LA is a transformative youth development organization committed to empowering Los Angeles youth from underserved communities by providing the guidance, resources, and skills necessary for success in high school, college, and beyond. Through year-round programming, we support our Leaders in becoming self-driven, academically accomplished individuals with the tools to make a positive impact on their communities. Our mission is to change the odds for high-potential teens from under-resourced communities by inspiring them to pursue personal success, while preparing them for leadership roles in school, college, work and their communities.

    POSITION SUMMARY

The Academic Support Manager will be responsible for establishing and leading C5LA’s academic support initiatives with the primary goal of helping Leaders maintain and increase their year-over-year grade point averages, support their journey toward high school graduation, and prepare them for college enrollment. The Academic Support Manager will develop an academic success framework, monitor each Leader’s academic progress, and provide resources to ensure their coursework meets California’s A-G requirements for high school graduation. Working closely with the class managers, this role will offer targeted support to individual Leaders and groups as needed, equipping them with academic skills, time management strategies, and the knowledge to excel academically.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Academic Support Framework and Implementation
      • Develop and implement an academic support framework tailored to help C5LA Leaders achieve and sustain strong GPAs, meet California A-G requirements, and prepare for college readiness.
      • Create and implement assessment tools to track academic progress and identify areas where Leaders may need additional support, such as tutoring or skill-building in core subject areas.
      • Regularly review the framework to ensure it meets the California high school requirements and is aligned with the needs of C5LA’s Leaders.
    • Staff Training and Support
      • Train program staff on academic support best practices, including how to guide Leaders in GPA improvement, time management, and setting academic goals.
      • Provide resources and ongoing support to staff for tracking and assisting Leaders’ academic progress, helping them monitor coursework completion and compliance with California A-G graduation requirements.
      • Develop training materials, guides, and workshops for staff, promoting continuous learning on effective academic support techniques.
    • Individual and Group Academic Support
      • Offer one-on-one and group workshops that address academic skills, including study techniques, time management, note-taking, and test preparation, with attention to meeting California A-G requirements.
      • Work closely with Leaders to establish individual academic goals and action plans, and assist with identifying and addressing any academic challenges they may encounter.
      • Respond to urgent academic concerns, offering targeted interventions, study support, or referrals for external tutoring as needed.
    • Reporting and Evaluation
      • Track and measure the impact of academic support initiatives by monitoring Leader GPA trends, graduation rates, and completion of A-G coursework requirements.
      • Regularly report on outcomes, progress, and insights to the Chief Operating Officer, development team, board members, and funders, showcasing the impact of academic support on Leader success.
      • Conduct ongoing evaluations to refine and enhance academic programming based on feedback, results, and emerging best practices in academic support.
    • Collaboration and Integration
      • Work closely with program staff to integrate academic goals and support mechanisms into all year-round programming activities.
      • Collaborate with the development team to share data-driven outcomes, impact stories, and key metrics that highlight academic achievements for funders and external audiences.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in academic support, college access, or youth development roles, preferably within underserved communities.
    • Strong Knowledge of the Los Angeles school system, policies, structures, and resources, particularly as they relate to high school graduation requirements, student support services, and postsecondary pathways.
    • Familiarity with credit recovery programs, dual enrollment opportunities, and community college partnerships that support high school students in staying on track for graduation and accelerating their college readiness.
    • Strong understanding of California’s A-G requirements for high school graduation and college eligibility.
    • Proven experience developing and implementing academic success programs, including assessment tools for monitoring GPA and other academic metrics.
    • Experience in training staff on academic support strategies and providing 1:1 and group academic guidance to youth.
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a student-centered approach.
    • Ability to analyze and report on academic progress and outcomes.
