    OVERVIEW

    The Communications Coordinator will work with OIC of America’s (OICA) growing communications team to help execute a robust strategic communications plan that raises the profile of the organization and its leadership nationally and in regions where OICA works. OICA is seeking an independent-minded, entrepreneurial thinker, writer and designer who can juggle many balls at once and respond nimbly to multiple priorities, while being a key thought partner in developing communications strategy. This position is a unique opportunity for an early-career professional to work with a national nonprofit that has a storied history, an essential mission and a dedication to achieving economic justice.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING (20%)

    • Work with the communications team to develop comprehensive, penetrating communications strategies that raise the profile of OICA.
    • Write press releases, media advisories, case studies and other communications materials to help tell the OICA story.
    • Generate national and regional media lists for press outreach.
    • Act as initial point of contact—via both email and phone—for press outreach.
    • Help write, design and distribute monthly newsletter for staff and affiliates.

    GRAPHIC DESIGN (35%)

    • Using Canva, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop/InDesign, and/or comparable design programs, design tools to support storytelling of OICA programs and people. Tools include but are not limited to: fliers, brochures, maps, newsletters and social media graphics.
    • Manage printing and production of designed materials and collateral for OICA events, meetings and gatherings.
    • Create and maintain standard materials for use in PowerPoint, Word and other software.

    SOCIAL AND DIGITAL MEDIA (30%)

    • Create content—both text and graphics—for OICA social media channels, including LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook.
    • Monitor social media channels for engagement and necessary response.
    • Using existing news clipping tools, sweep traditional and social media for content that should be amplified on OICA’s channels.
    • Help ensure website content is accurate and up-to-date.
    • Stay abreast of industry trends, leveraging insights to enhance the organization’s social media presence.

    TEAM SUPPORT (15%)

    • Using news clipping and social listening services, compile and format clip reports for use by staff, leadership and board of directors.
    • Provide communications staff support at meetings, conferences, conventions and other public events.
    • Assist with ad hoc projects as needed, including file organization and other various team and cultural events both within the team and across the organization (i.e., department all-hands, offsites, special projects).
    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

    • A dedication to achieving economic justice.
    • 1-3 years’ experience in communications, design, external relations or related role.
    • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to take ownership of multiple projects.
    • Excellent design and writing skills, and a superior attention to detail.
    • Deep experience using Canva, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop/InDesign, and/or comparable design programs.
    • Deep experience using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
    • Thorough understanding of LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram; what makes for good, compelling content on those platforms; and how each platform’s content is unique.
    • Preferred but not necessary: Experience using news clipping and/or social listening services.
    • Preferred but not necessary: Experience using Wordpress or other website management software.
    • Preferred but not necessary: Understanding of the importance of STEM education, and career and technical education.
    • Ability to work independently and as a member of cross-functional teams.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills, with an ability to recognize opportunities and develop ways of addressing them.
    • Performing day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork.
    • Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintaining them over time.
    • Communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to the public, media, government, and other external sources.
    • Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • General office environment. Regular travel is not expected but may occur periodically around scheduled events. Requires sitting for extended periods of time, standing, visual acumen, manual dexterity, and fingering for working with computer keyboards.
    • This role is in OICA’s Philadelphia office Monday through Thursday; Fridays are remote. Note that while this is OICA’s current policy, it could change at any time.
    • This role may occasionally require early morning, late evening, or weekend work.
