    Description

    Position Overview:

    The Coalition Director will serve as the key management leader for the organization and works in collaboration with staff and steering committee to bring overall strategic and operational capacity to H4I’s work and mission. The Coalition Director will be responsible for these primary areas working with staff and steering committee: manage the development and execution of the H4I coalition’s strategy , vision, and goals; manage the steering committee; implement development and fundraising efforts; maintain external partnerships; and manage the coalition's financial and operational functions, including HR and administrative tasks. They will supervise and support the Coalition Manager in their role to manage member engagement, monthly meetings, and working with coalition committees. This is a full-time exempt position with a salary range of $80,000-$85,000 and a comprehensive benefits package. This position requires a willingness to travel within Connecticut.

    Responsibilities:

    • Coalition strategy and goals
      • Oversee the development and execution of strategy and coalition goals, in collaboration with coalition staff and steering committee, including crafting and implementing the coalition’s annual goals and long-term vision.
      • Oversee the development and implementation of legislative, field, and organizing plans for the campaign based on collective strategy in collaboration with coalition staff and steering committee, encompassing goal setting, key milestones, long-term vision and committee engagement.
    • Steering Committee Management
      • Manage the Steering Committee (SC) of the H4I coalition on an on-going basis, including creating meeting agendas, facilitating weekly meetings, and creating and managing decision-making processes for the SC in order for the SC to successfully do its work.
      • Work in collaboration with the Steering Committee on high-level coalition planning, strategy, and processes to accomplish the goals of the coalition, such as planning for strategy retreats, structure conversations, and coalition strategy decisions.
      • Facilitate action with the Steering Committee for rapid response opportunities and conflicts.
    • Development & Fundraising
      • Manage coalition’s overall development and fundraising strategy including grants management, writing and reporting, and oversee and cultivate foundation and institutional funder relationships
    • External Partnerships
      • Maintaining external relationships with stakeholders, funders, coalition partners and state/national organizations, As needed, representing coalition on coalition tables and in external meetings.
    • Operations & Administration
      • Finances: Work with fiscal sponsor to manage the financial health of the coalition, including: managing overall finances to ensure adequate cash flow and funds, creation of the annual budget, and routine/monthly reconciliation of expenses.
      • Human Resources: Work in collaboration with fiscal sponsor as needed to carry out key HR functions such as managing hiring processes and on-boarding, and implementing year end staff evaluations,.
      • Admin/Operations: work with fiscal sponsor to drafting and implement contracts for consultants and vendors and approve of payments
    • Supervise Coalition Manager:
      • The Coalition Director supervises the Coalition Manager in their key areas of work, which include coalition management, coalition organizing and mobilization, communication and data responsibilities, and other duties.

    • Experience managing diverse coalitions and/or partnerships to accomplish a common goal or purpose
    • Experience leading and coordinating a team, department, project and/or campaign to achieve its goals, including managing and supervising staff
    • Previous experience managing advocacy, legislative, and/or organizing campaigns for progressive causes
    • Familiarity with with state legislative advocacy in Connecticut preferred or willingness to learn
    • Experience with nonprofit management, such as strategic planning, fundraising, or budgeting preferred but not required;
    • Ability to work in a collaborative leadership approach
    • Ability to work well both on their own and as part of a team
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Enthusiasm for open communication and building relationships
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Excellent time management skills, ability to work to meet deadlines, prioritize tasks, and to delegate them when appropriate.
    • Familiarity with action network, every action, mobilize or similar platforms a plus
    • Bicultural, ­Bilingual English/Spanish/Portuguese/Creole a plus
    • Fluency in Google Docs is required.
    • Reliable transportation a must
