    Position: Volunteer & Accessibility Coordinator

    Department: Front of House

    Reports to: Associate Director of Patron Services & Security

    FLSA Classification: Part-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt – this role is anticipated to work up to 29 hours per week, and requires regular weekend and evening hours.

    Salary Range: $25-$27/hour, overtime eligible after 40 hours within a work week

    Work Location: Downtown Seattle. The 5th Avenue Theatre administrative office is located within Skinner Building (1326 5th Avenue, Suite 735).

    Position Summary:

    The Volunteer and Accessibility Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteers while also ensuring that the organization is accessible to all individuals, regardless of their abilities. This role requires a strong commitment to equity and inclusion, the ability to adapt and adjust an approach to suit different individuals and situations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to organize and motivate a large group of volunteers.

    Responsibilities:

    • Volunteer Coordination:
      • Recruit volunteers through various channels, including online platforms, social media, and community outreach
      • Work in collaboration with the Associate Director of Patron and Security Operations to develop and implement volunteer training programs
      • Assign and schedule volunteers for season, specific performances, and other events as needed
      • Monitor and evaluate volunteer performance
      • Recognize and reward volunteers for their contributions
    • Accessibility Coordination:
      • Ensure that the organization's facilities, programs, and services are accessible to individuals with disabilities
      • Implement accessibility policies and procedures and provide training to staff, ushers, security personnel, and volunteers
      • Coordinate with contracted accessibility consultants and experts
    • Community Engagement:
      • Build relationships with community organizations and disability service providers
      • Promote the organization's volunteer opportunities and accessibility initiatives
      • Participate in community events and conferences
      • Stay engaged and up to date on community organizations and practices and procedures to ensure The 5th is connected holistically with the community and evolving best practices
    • Administrative Tasks:
      • Maintain volunteer records and databases
      • Provide data and reporting on volunteer activities and accessibility initiatives
    • Special Considerations:
      • Regularly work with crowds and in potentially stressful positions

    Qualifications:

    The ideal candidate for this position will possess most of the following skills and qualifications or relevant experience and achievements to help meet the role's needs:

    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Passion for community service and inclusivity
    • Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices a plus
    • Experience working with volunteers preferred
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Experience working in high-stress situations a plus

    Physical Requirements:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

    • Ability to perform administrative work using a computer for extended periods of time
    • Must be able to physically navigate dynamic workspaces among multiple floors including a theater auditorium, rehearsal rooms, and office spaces, occasionally in varied or low lighting and changing noise levels
    • Lift/move/push up to 30 pounds periodically, occasionally alone.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and to hear/listen to employees/patrons via phone or in person.
    • Required to stoop, bend and reach with arms for event management including, but limited to, setting up tables, carrying materials, or moving chairs

    Special Considerations:

    The 5th Avenue Theatre is a quick-moving, deadline driven environment. Staff members are often required to work in group settings and have regular contact with the general public. Office and performance spaces are typically active and support a highly collaborative work environment. The duties outlined above are intended to identify general scope and requirements but additional duties, which support successful completion of this department’s objectives, may be required.

    This role regularly works with crowds and in potentially high-volume, stressful positions.
