    Description

    Progressive parent-run cooperative preschool in West Philadelphia seeks an aftercare teacher to engage students ages 2-6 in play-based and experiential learning. Teachers at our school create opportunities for child-focused and child-led discoveries in learning that support students’ social, emotional, and academic development. We ask our teachers to contribute to a life-learning cooperative environment, considering and working with the needs of the community, parents, students and other staff. Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience, along with monthly health stipend and generous paid days off.

    Ideal Candidate:

    • has significant prior experience working with children ages 2-6 (required)
    • has experience working in a group educational setting, such as a school, daycare, summer camp, classes/workshops (required)
    • has a degree in early childhood education (preferred)
    • has experience and/or knowledge of special education
    • has demonstrated knowledge of early childhood development
    • is creative, patient, playful, and compassionate
    • has experience and/or knowledge from working within or as a member of cooperatives
    • has experience or interest in leading exploration for young children in nature and/or the arts

    Teacher responsibilities include:

    • ensuring the physical safety of students
    • attending to the needs of our youngest students, including diapering and assistance with dressing
    • developing/planning and/or following curriculum scope and sequence
    • using positive discipline and teaching developmentally appropriate conflict resolution skills
    • attending monthly meetings after school or in the evening
    • working as a cooperative team member on the teaching team
    • communicating regularly with the parents/guardians of students
    • creating a respectful environment that honors and celebrates the individuality of all students.
    • writing student assessments and facilitating parent-teacher conferences

    Additional Requirement

    • Candidates must have current PA Child Abuse clearances, PA Criminal Background Check and FBI Fingerprinting.

    Details:

    • Candidates must be available Monday - Friday from 1pm-6pm
    • Candidates must be willing to work in a collaborative, co-teaching model.
