    About The Welcome Table

    The Welcome Table is the community resource center of the St. James School. We aim to help build a community of sharing, created to help families, friends and neighbors of St. James School obtain all that they need. We do this primarily through community actions, programs and services developed for and with community members to meet the collective needs of the community. Our instructors are integral in providing community members with resources & support.

    Job Responsibilities

    We are looking for individuals who are capable of teaching a range of digital literacy classes from beginning through advanced levels computer skills and applications.

    We hope to offer two different one-hour classes during the week, beginning in January 2025: one on a weekday focusing on basic skills and concepts (using a mouse, navigating the internet, etc); and one on a Saturday morning covering more intermediate or advanced topics (specific applications/software, social media, digital footprint, etc), each with an open lab to follow, which instructors may or may not choose to proctor, depending upon availability.

    An understanding of adult learning theory and teaching best practices, and a commitment to supporting low-income people to access information using tech tools. Instruction will include on-on-one and group meetings. The agenda for each class meeting should be structured but engaging and interactive; neighbors should feel safe and encouraged to ask questions and to share their own knowledge and experiences.

    Digital Literacy Instruction

    • Facilitate and teach workshops and computer classes in computer and internet fundamentals, specific computer applications, and Northstar modules
    • Design, develop and work with key Welcome Table staff to implement curricula and digital literacy classes as determined by program needs.

    Computer Lab Management

    • Manage the computer lab hours (e.g. connect individuals to programming, assist computer lab patrons in the use of the technology in the space, complete referrals)
    • Recruit and retain digital literacy class students and computer lab attendants
    • Provide one-on-one digital literacy support for participants
    • Provide digital navigation services for patrons and learners. Connect individuals to the best digital resources for their needs.
    • Review curriculum at a minimum of a quarterly basis to ensure the most accurate and up to date information, update and modify to reflect changes.
    • Track and keep up-to-date student attendance, progress, and participant files as determined by the program requirements, funder, and supervisor.
    • Monitor & maintain all IT equipment for classes and track the IT equipment in The Welcome Table

    Program Support

    • Assist in developing marketing and outreach materials for programmatic needs.

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience

    • Experience teaching digital literacy classes and/or teaching populations with limited experience using digital technology preferred.
    • Experience working with populations that are racially, economically, sexually, educationally, and gender-diverse is preferred.
    • The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and will be energized working in a collaborative environment; they will be flexible, self-motivated, organized, able to work well under pressure.
    • Strong digital literacy required; knowledge of e-learning tools a plus.
    • Neighbors from Strawberry Mansion, Allegheny West, RAH, and/or other North Philadelphia communities are strongly encouraged to apply
