    About the Position

    The School-Based Behavioral Health Liaison will play a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive school environment by providing mental health resources and promoting behavioral health awareness and education specific for youth and young adults. This position requires a proactive, collaborative approach, working closely with the school administration, students, families, educators, providers, and community partners.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Education & Awareness
      • Promote awareness and education to community educators for early detection of serious emotional disturbances in youth and young adults.
      • Develop or obtain educational materials from reputable sources. Distribute materials to students, young adults, teachers and school staff on topics such as stress management, emotional regulation, mental health literacy, and early identification of serious emotional disturbances. Materials should be age-appropriate and culturally sensitive and address the diverse needs of Rhode Island's youth population
    • Resource Navigation & Referral:

    Provide connections to resources for early intervention services and treatment for youth, young adults, and families through resources such as Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs), education assistance resource planning, and additional linkage to community resources such as Family support partners and LGBTQ+ community partners.

    • Community Engagement & Collaboration:
      • Build strong relationships with community partners, including CCBHCs, medical providers (particularly pediatricians), and other relevant groups.
      • Engage in outreach efforts to promote early detection and intervention strategies for educators and medical providers.
      • Actively participate in the Rhode Island Department of Education’s (RIDE) School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) and other relevant RIDE initiatives to contribute to the mental health awareness discussion regarding the RI school climate transformation.
    • Advocacy & Policy:
      • Advocate and promote education on early detection evidenced based practices for medical providers that specifically serve youth and young adults (i.e. pediatrics).
      • Promote equity and inclusivity in behavioral healthcare that serves the diverse youth population across Rhode Island
    • Data Collection & Reporting:
      • Maintain accurate records of contact with students, parents, teachers, providers and other stakeholders; referrals; and program outcomes.
      • Prepare regular reports as required.
