Who we are:
After Innocence is a non-profit that provides post-release assistance to America’s exonerees – people who were wrongfully convicted and imprisoned for crimes they did not commit – and advocates with them for policy reform. We do all our work remotely, with clients across the country.
Our mission is to reach and offer support to every exoneree in the United States, and provide each one with consistent, reliable, and proactive re-entry support in key areas, including ensuring access to health care, social services, and legal services, mental health treatment, financial counseling and other services.
We also work to promote the passage of laws through which every state will become more accountable for wrongful conviction by fairly compensating exonerees for the harm they have suffered and assisting them with post-release services.
Through this work, we provide meaningful help to exonerees as they rebuild their lives after wrongful conviction, bring our laws into closer alignment with values of justice and equity, and contribute to a general shift toward greater justice system accountability and fairness.
