    Description

    Food & Water Watch is looking for a Digital Strategist to join our Communications team and build our advocacy and fundraising efforts to protect our food, water, and climate. The Digital Strategist will work closely with the digital, development, organizing, and policy teams at Food & Water Watch.

    About the position:

    The Digital Strategist will report to the Digital Program Manager and will work closely with members of the Digital team to implement strategic campaigns to protect our food, water, and climate. The Digital Strategist will develop and implement online engagement strategies to support organizational priorities and campaigns; grow and retain our supporter and membership base across digital channels; and manage, integrate, and analyze member data across campaigns and platforms. The Digital Strategist will work closely with staff across the organization to coordinate timely advocacy and fundraising efforts and to ensure staff are trained on digital organizing platforms and best practices.

    Salary: $53,700 – $68,500 Annually, dependent upon experience and location.

    Location: Remote in the US.

    Responsibilities:

    1. In collaboration with the team, plan, develop, write, and execute digital advocacy and fundraising communications designed to inspire people to engage with and donate to Food & Water Watch and Food & Water Action.
    2. Assist in coordinating FWW/FWA’s email program, and write and produce engaging digital content that fosters long-term relationships with our supporters and the broader progressive community to motivate them to take action, donate, and volunteer.
    3. Coordinate with internal campaign and organizing teams to create integrated engagement campaigns focused on national and regional advocacy campaigns.
    4. Work closely with Organizing teams to brainstorm, strategize and manage online engagement tactics aimed at improving the success of state and local campaigns.
    5. Understand, create, and test best practices and innovations for email, SMS, social media, web, and online-to-offline mobilization; and track digital metrics and rigorously analyze data to learn what subscribers and donors respond positively to and quickly pivot to apply insights and learnings.
    6. Coordinate with Food & Water Watch/Food & Water Action (FWW/FWA) teams to strategize and execute on rapid response moments as they unfold.
    7. Test and optimize online tactics, and track and analyze metrics, to develop data-driven organizational best practices for advocacy and fundraising.
    8. Maintain knowledge of digital organizing best practices; monitor new functionality through FWW/FWA digital tools and implement updates to internal processes and best practices as needed.
    9. Identify, develop, and drive the optimization of high-performing fundraising and advocacy campaigns, including in rapid-response moments.
    10. Manage and provide training on a complex suite of online tools for sending emails, creating online petitions, coordinating events, sending mobile broadcast messages, generating widespread calls to decision-makers, responding to supporter emails, and facilitating peer-to-peer texting.
    11. Assist in monitoring and handling supporter responses to national email communications
    12. Participate in community management of FWW/FWA supporters.
    13. Maintain familiarity with a wide and diverse set of food, water, and climate issues on a national and local level.
    14. Carry out other projects as assigned

    Education/Experience:

    • BA or equivalent experience; 5-7 years of experience in digital campaigning/strategy, organizing, or marketing.
    • Experience in email writing and list building, database management and segmentation, and online fundraising.
    • Strong track record of strategy development and digital content planning and creation.
    • Deep understanding of engaging, creative and personal writing for digital advocacy and fundraising at a national and regional level.
    • Proven email writing, coaching and editing skills with a strong attention to detail.
    • Proven ability to write clearly, concisely, quickly, and accurately, incorporating key messages and calls to action, using appropriate language and tone for the target audience, and adopting the “voice” of the organization
    • Expertise in online platforms, tools, and CRMS such as: ThruText, Scale to Win, Mobile Commons, Salesforce, and Engaging Networks.
    • Demonstrates excellent judgment regarding strategic and timely communications reaching supporters.

    Computer Skills: The incumbent must work in a computerized environment and have adequate knowledge of word processing, email, internet and spreadsheet software; in particular have coursework or certification in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and proficiency with all other Microsoft Office products.

All staff are expected to help with and participate/attend events and other activities as appropriate that are organized for our supporters and donors.     Compensation: $53,700 - $68,500 annually, dependent upon experience and location.

    Food & Water Watch provides an excellent benefits package for full-time employees. This includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision plans for staff; 403b retirement plans with employer contribution once eligible; 12 weeks paid parental leave; 3 weeks vacation for new employees; 12 sick days and 5 personal days; paid federal holidays and winter break (December 24 – January 1).

    This position is a bargaining unit position covered under a contract between Food & Water Watch and the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union (NPEU). FLSA Status dependent upon salary and location.
