    • Hands and Feet of Asheville in partnership with Black Mountain Presbyterian Church

    Reports to:

    • Executive Director of Hands and Feet of Asheville

    Location:

    • In-person meetings in Black Mountain, NC, and across the Asheville area, with occasional remote meetings and work-from-home tasks. Hands and Feet is based in Asheville, NC. Black Mountain Presbyterian Church is based in Black Mountain, NC. Program participants live in Black Mountain and Swannanoa.

    Organizational information:

    • Hands and Feet of Asheville is an independent non-profit supported by the Presbyterian Church community within Western NC and open to participants of all faith and tradition backgrounds. Hands and Feet of Asheville (HFA) engages young adults for nine months of transformative mission in Western North Carolina. HFA currently has six young adults in their program.
    • Black Mountain Presbyterian Church (BMPC) is a vital and thriving church of the PC (USA) denomination. Black Mountain Presbyterian has a young adult disaster relief service corps for Hurricane Helene currently comprised of four young adults. BMPC has partnered with HFA to bring their young adults into HFA’s curriculum model.

    Mentorship Manager Job Description

    Purpose:

    • Manage and coordinate the BMPC service corps program through Hands and Feet of Asheville. Serve as mentor and guide to its participants.

    Essential Functions:

    • Facilitate program orientation for BMPC service corps participants.
    • Conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with participants, tracking their growth and evolution.
    • Mentor, nurture, and advocate for the program participants, walking alongside them in discerning a personal and professional development path.
    • Plan and lead weekly Community Days. These days take place with the full group of participants and are a mix of personal and professional development, with time for recreation and fun! Community Days include volunteer service with local WNC organizations and groups, workshops, and trainings. A typical Community day could also look like a book group, a hike, a sound healing session, or a mental health first aid workshop, as just a few examples.
    • Plan and lead local retreats and additional partnership events with participants.
    • Participate in weekly check-in’s with the HFA Executive Director and Black Mountain Staff.
    • Provide monthly staff reports to the HFA Executive Director and Board and Black Mountain Staff.
    • Manage the BMPC service corps program’s budget in partnership with the HFA Executive Director.
    • Improve the program, providing strategic feedback and thought leadership.
    • Represent the program, networking and recruiting local partners and participants.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated experience in working with and mentoring young adults, with an approach rooted in space-holding, deep listening, and compassionate partnership.
    • Ability to meet young adults where they are, bringing out the best in each individual by facilitating their empowerment and self-leadership.
    • Passion for Western North Carolina Helene disaster relief work.
    • A heart for social justice and activist work.
    • Program Management or Direction experience.
    • Experience and/or study in the creation and nurture of intentional community.
    • Excellent communication, organization, interpersonal, group facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
    • Capacity to serve as an advocate for the program with partners and in the wider community.

    Job Expectations:

    • Hybrid work environment, with in-person requirements for participant Community Days, partner site visits, and participant check-ins.
    • Regular and accurate communication with others.
    • Completion of work tasks involving the use of phone, computer, web, and video technology, the ability to interact effectively with digital and printed materials, and to operate required job-related equipment.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Occasional work outside of typical hours for meetings, presentations, or participant support.
