    POSITION OVERVIEW

The Communications Fellow plays a crucial role in advancing BLACC’s mission by supporting communication efforts and community engagement initiatives, particularly within the Parent Corps program. Reporting to the Vice President of Communications, the Communications Fellow will assist in crafting and disseminating messages, developing materials and collateral, and managing social media platforms.

This role is critical to advancing BLACC’s mission by cultivating a network of parent advocates who can effectively mobilize, engage policymakers, and influence education reform.

    ABOUT BLACC

The Black Latinx Asian Charter Collaborative (BLACC) represents a movement of New York public charter schools dedicated to increasing the number of educational options founded and led by people of color.

We believe that education is not just a service—it is a catalyst for transformation. In a world where Black, Latinx, and Asian students have been consistently underrepresented, BLACC is working to empower those communities and ensure that education in New York reflects the rich tapestry of our state’s diverse population.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Digital Communications

    • Assist with streamlining BLACC social media accounts, ensuring uniform content and tone of voice for landing pages, graphics, and other elements.
    • Develop and maintain a social media calendar and regularly post to BLACC’s social accounts.
    • Help maintain the BLACC website and other digital properties.
    • Work with the BLACC team to design print and digital collateral for events and programming.

    Communication Strategy

Collaborate with the Vice President of Communications to implement our comprehensive communication strategy.

    • Assist in drafting press releases, newsletters, and other communication materials to promote Parent Corps activities, events, and achievements.
    • Monitor media coverage and social media trends related to education and charter school advocacy.

    Administrative Support

    • Maintain accurate records and databases related to communication activities, including media contacts, social media analytics, and communications materials.
    • Provide administrative support as needed, including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and managing correspondence.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field preferred.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences.
    • Proficiency in social media management tools and platforms.
    • Knowledge of communication principles and practices, particularly in the nonprofit or education sector.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build relationships with stakeholders.
    • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and time management skills.

    Preferred Experience

    • Proficiency in design, including Photoshop, InDesign, or Canva.
    • Familiarity with New York charter schools and education policy.
    • Bilingual or multilingual skills are highly desirable (e.g., Spanish)
