    Description

    The New Mexico Prison & Jail Project (NMPJP) is a nonprofit legal organization that advocates to protect the rights of incarcerated people in New Mexico by bringing civil rights lawsuits and other legal actions on their behalf. NMPJP has a position available for a full-time staff attorney. Generous benefits package. Salary dependent on experience. Work will be supervised by NMPJP’s Director.

    Job duties will include:

    1. Managing an active caseload;
    2. Investigating potential claims;
    3. Opening new civil rights cases; and
    4. Other tasks as needed to advance NMPJP’s mission.

    Qualifications include:

    1. A passion for advocating for the rights of people who are incarcerated;
    2. An ability to interact respectfully, compassionately and effectively with people who are or have been incarcerated;
    3. A proficiency with federal and/or state litigation; and
    4. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
