    Description

    Nourish Pierce County seeks a seasoned Director of Development with at least three to five years as a Director of Development to lead the organization's efforts to provide food for the people who visit more than 315,000 times a year. Nourish has a solid reputation and has served Pierce County for over 50 years. Nourish has six brick and mortar food banks, and two mobile food banks that serve an additional fifteen sites. The organization is embarking on a capital campaign to create a state-of-the-art food bank facility that will enhance our commitment to providing nutritious food and support services to people in need with compassion, dignity and respect.

    Purpose and General Description of Responsibilities

    The Director of Development provides leadership and is accountable for the design and execution of an annual development plan which includes a revenue goal of approximately $3 million annually. They accomplish this with a three-person Development team that includes a Development Manager, Grants Coordinator, and Development Administrative Assistant.

    The successful Director of Development will be a positive, friendly, seasoned fund development professional with experience leading, managing, motivating, and coaching development staff, volunteers, and Board members to success. They will be experienced at planning and executing all aspects of a fund development program with a sense of urgency and good follow-through. They will both be a creative problem-solver who values analytics, but gets things done to achieve or exceed revenue goals and program metrics within defined timeframes. The successful candidate will be experienced in major donor fundraising and someone who embraces and seeks out face-to-face stewardship, cultivation, and solicitation. They will also have experience successfully leading and supporting fundraising events, grants, and annual giving campaigns; finally, the successful candidate will actively network, prospect, and bring people to the table who have a passion for serving people in their time of need.

    In addition to leadership, supervision and departmental oversight, the Director of Development maintains a portfolio of major gift and planned gift donors and prospects with whom they will meet face to face on a regular basis. They also engage senior staff, Board members and key volunteers to participate in prospecting, donor cultivation and stewardship meetings.

    The Development Department is responsible for the creation of development and communication plans, strategies, and activities to acquire, retain and upgrade donors and their contributions and communicate with stakeholders. The Director of Development ensures that weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual key performance metrics assigned to the Development Department are achieved and documented in the donor database and reports.

    Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience

    • 3 to 5 years’ experience leading a development department at a director level.
    • Experience supervising, coaching, and evaluating employees.
    • Experience with demonstrated expertise in strategic thinking and development program planning.
    • Proven track record of successful gift solicitations and achieving revenue goals.
    • Proven track record developing and cultivating donors and relationships with multiple community stakeholders.
    • Experience and comfort working with senior level executives and board of directors.
    • Ability to successfully pass a Washington State Patrol Background Check
    • Current food handler’s permit or within 2 weeks of hire.
    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
    • CFRE designation preferred.
