    Description

    The American Booksellers Association (“ABA”) is excited to hire an Equity & Access Coordinator (“EAC”) to join our team of passionate, collaborative committed individuals who work to support independent bookstores around the country and their work in their communities. This position reports directly to ABA’s Chief Communications Officer.

    The essential functions of this job include the following:

    • Schedule, support, and attend council meetings (includes scheduling meetings and meeting reminders, conducting council nomination process, updating pertinent info on ABA’s website, coordinating council announcements with the communications team, and managing/working on council projects.)
    • Schedule, plan and execute ABA’s internal equity & access trainings
    • Manage equity and access projects from start to finish, including assessing needs, conducting research, establishing timeline, determining steps, and conducting actions to complete the programs and meet goals.
    • Oversee ABA’s Land Acknowledgment commitment
    • Update and add pertinent content to ABA’s website
    • Offer members equity and access support
    • Manage member affinity meet ups and/or affinity forums (includes surveying members about needs, scheduling, appointing hosts, updating Discord, and monitoring/ creating content as needed)
    • Expand ABA’s resources for members
    • Create an equity & accessibility resource for each ABA conference
    • Ensure that all ABA programs work to break down barriers, create equitable access, and address the needs of historically and systemically marginalized and excluded members, including those from BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and Disability communities
    • Coordinate pertinent education initiatives
    • Meet regularly with other ABA staff involved in equity & access work to brainstorm, support each other, identify needs, and discuss problems, projects, and solutions
    • Act as the accessibility liaison for members prior to and during conferences
    • Assist in developing equity and access criteria for conference venue selection
    • Offer equity and access input on education conference content
    • Create, coordinate, and implement equity and access ad hoc projects as developed
    • Travel to regional and national meetings and events as needed
    • Additional job duties may be assigned.

    Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

    • Close mental and visual attention required to perform work dealing primarily with preparing and analyzing data and figures, using a computer terminal, and/or extensive reading.
    • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. Must be able to do repetitive motion of hands or wrists, finger, grasp, handle, or feel; push and pull with arms; reach with arms and/or hands; crouch, bend, or kneel. Occasionally may need to climb.
    • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.

    Location:

    Remote. This position will require occasional domestic travel and some nights and weekends for conferences, regional events, and meetings approximately 20 days/nights a year. This position may also require occasional work on nights and weekends as business needs dictate.

    Compensation:

    $50,000 - $55,000 a year, depending on experience

    Tentative Timeline:

    ABA is accepting applications through mid-March and will begin the interview process late-March.
