    Description

    Position Summary

We are seeking a Communications and Events Coordinator to provide support during our Communications and Development Manager's parental leave. This role will maintain our digital presence, manage our brand assets, and help raise public awareness of Genspace's mission. Additionally, this role will help with coordination of our annual ‘Birthday Bash’ fundraising event. While this role will be handling tasks typically managed at a higher level, this is a coordinator-level position focused on maintaining systems rather than strategic development during this coverage period. If you are an organized communicator interested in non-profit development, please consider applying!

Please note that this is a fixed-term (4 months starting in July), part-time role.

    About Genspace

Genspace is the world’s first community biology lab — a place where people of all backgrounds can learn, create, and grow with the life sciences. Since 2009, we have served the greater New York area by providing hands-on STEAM education programs for adults and youth, cultural and outreach events for the public, and a membership program to support New York’s community of creatives, researchers, and entrepreneurs. Our programs demystify scientific processes, provide a platform for innovation, and cultivate the next generation of life sciences leaders in emerging global technologies, such as biotechnology, neuroscience, genomics, and many more.

    Mission

Our mission is to foster a safe and inclusive community where all people – including those from non-traditional and underrepresented backgrounds – can experientially learn, boldly create, and meaningfully grow with the life sciences.

    Vision

Everyone is empowered to use the life sciences to explore questions and develop applications that are connected to their lives and rooted in their communities.

You can read more about our history and core values on our website: https://www.genspace.org/mission.

    Content Creation

    • Creating high-quality and compelling written, photographic, and video content for social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.), newsletters, the Genspace website, campaigns, ads, etc. Content created will serve goals including but not limited to fundraising, visibility, and relationship building.
    • Collecting stories, photos, statistics, etc. from program participants, stakeholders, and staff to share with Genspace’s networks. This includes attending and traveling to programmatic events and interviewing participants as needed.

    Communications

    • Maintaining and updating our website, newsletter, and social media channels to engage our community, increase visibility, and support our educational and outreach-related mission.
    • Organizing and maintaining program materials and printed collateral.
    • Understanding Genspace’s branding guidelines and ensuring their appropriate use across the organization’s collateral and website.
    • Upholding and uplifting Genspace’s brand, messaging, and values in all communications.
    • Publishing high quality external content as needed (to social media, etc.) to maintain brand visibility and tell our story.
    • Engaging with social audiences to grow our following and encourage dialogue.

    Events

    • Assisting with planning, logistics, and purchasing for and coordination of in-person and virtual events. This will include programmatic and volunteer events as needed.
    • Coordinating Genspace’s annual "Birthday Bash" celebration including logistics, promotion, and day-of support.
