Overview

The Field technician organizes, implements and develops activities for the correct and efficient execution of the Rain Forest Trust project and other tasks assigned by the country director.

Responsibilities & duties

• Accompaniment and coordination of the Rain Forest Trust project team, and preparation of monthly reports.
• Placement of camera traps and acoustic monitors, and preparation of databases and maps of the study sites.
• Support to the country Director and Project Coordinator in multiple activities, from assistance during the execution of meetings, preparation of reports.
• Fund management and expenses reporting of cash advances assigned.
• Support writing of scientific articles.
• Support in the maintenance of Panthera vehicles and shopping of materials and equipment.
• Writing scientific articles.
• Technical field visits and meeting with community leaders on various topics.
• Overseeing the work of the field guides and park rangers
• Writing minutes and reports from meetings with local stakeholders.
• Camping in remote areas while conducting field surveys
• Coordinating other field biologist during amphibian, botanical, birds and mammals surveys
• Coordinating logistics for all field trips (meals, lodging, materials, transportations).

Qualifications, experience and personality traits

• At least two years of experience in conservation, supported by a bachelor’s degree in biology; preferably from a local or regional university for general knowledge of the natural history and systematics of the country’s species.
• Basic knowledge of Geographical Information System (GIS), database management and packages for data analysis or statistical analysis.
• Basic knowledge of wildlife and ecosystems in Honduras.
• Knowledge of the national territory, especially protected areas of the country.
• Ability to lead teams and communication skills with local communities.
• Abilities to field data collection, literature reviews and to write scientific articles.
• Willingness to travel regularly and work extended periods of time in the field and outside conventional hours/environments.
• Driver’s license and experience in driving of four-wheel-drive vehicle and motorcycles
• Proficiency in English and Spanish.
