    Description

A2 (Anthropocene Alliance) is the nation’s largest coalition of frontline communities fighting for environmental protection. We represent more than 400 member-communities in all US states and territories. The breadth and depth of our interventions make us distinct in the environmental movement: By educating, organizing and supporting grassroots leaders and their communities, we are at the forefront of the movement to stop the use of fossil fuels, restore threatened ecosystems, and establish an environmentally sustainable economic and social order.

A2 is currently establishing a national network of our State Organizing Committees (SOCs). Each SOC is hosted by an existing A2 member who will bring together other grassroots organizations in their state. A2 will help them with building their base, fundraising, technical assistance, connecting to state and federal policy makers, and if desired, establishing a dues-paying membership program to enable ongoing work. We’re starting with five and will roll out more SOCs in successive years.

We are seeking an energetic, smart, flexible, and hard-working Digital Campaigns Manager to support this work. The person should be as comfortable knocking on residents’ doors gathering information and stories, as analyzing data in front of a computer. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with our expanding field team, the new hire will help ensure that the stories, information and priorities of our members shape decision-making at local, state and federal levels. You will use a range of platforms and software to do this: EveryAction, AirTable, Action Network, Hootsuite, YouTube, BlueSky, Facebook, Google Groups and Workspace, and WordPress

The work will likely involve regular travel to impacted communities.

    Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the overall digital campaign strategy for A2’s movement building work, aimed at educating member communities, as well as local and state politicians and agency heads, about the need for programs and policies to protect water resources, remove toxic contaminants, and address climate change. This means:

    • Designing and coordinating digital campaigns across the A2 membership and the SOCs
    • Training and supporting A2 members as they participate in the campaigns.
    • Providing technical and creative support including graphic design, video editing, data management and other technical needs.
    • Overseeing A2’s social media strategy and accounts, including Facebook, Bluesky, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram.
    • Supporting A2’s internal systems for managing data – EveryAction, AirTable, and Google (groups.)
    • Overseeing the A2 website, including the membership map, and the commissioning and tracking of writers for the community profile pages.
    • General support to our community organizing work and other duties as needed.

    Skills and Qualifications:

    • Experience working on or leading grassroots digital campaigns
    • Knowledge of and experience working with EveryAction and WordPress
    • Experience with various social media platforms such as Facebook, Bluesky, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram.
    • Experience in, or Interest in exploring other software such as Action Network, AirTable, Signal, Slack and broader social media.
    • Video and photo editing skills, graphic design and excellent writing
    • Strong organizational skills, and a keen eye for detail.

A2 is a mission-driven organization working on behalf of our members. We ask that staff:

    • Are committed to environmental protection and working with low-income people.
    • Work flexibly, responding to the needs of our members and organization. This may mean shifting from one task to the next.
    • Are willing to travel to members communities, conferences and convenings when appropriate (costs covered by A2)
    • Are willing to work out of members’ offices when appropriate and attend regular training on community organizing.

The position will involve up to 40 hours per week working from 9am to 5pm (or something similar) on a typical week. We expect you to be flexible – for example when dealing with emergencies, in scheduling meetings with community leaders, or getting a grant submitted by the deadline.

While the position can potentially be fully remote, we are setting up satellite offices in New Orleans, St Louis, Little Rock and Biloxi, and our preference would be to have the Digital Campaigns Manager work out of one of these offices. In your application letter, please say if you are able to do so.
