    Awamaki is an innovative non-profit social enterprise that works to economically empower Quechua women and preserve traditional crafts through skills-based education and connection to market access. Its mission is to collaborate with associations of Peruvian women, investing in their skills to connect them to markets, and strengthening their leadership to promote entrepreneurship of sustainable businesses so that they can bring prosperity to their families and communities. Awamaki achieves this mission through two primary programs: Sustainable Tourism and the Artisan Cooperatives Program. Awamaki is located in Ollantaytambo, a small town in the Sacred Valley, Peru.

    Position Description:

    Awamaki seeks an experienced individual to oversee our artisan product sales and product development. This is a full time position (44 hours a week) based in our office in Ollantaytambo, Peru. This person will be responsible for managing our store in Ollantaytambo, guiding product development and managing design volunteers, and maintaining relationships with our Cusco-based wholesale customers and custom clients. She will work alongside the Director of Artisan Cooperatives and the Production Coordinator to fill orders for both international and national clients. She will work alongside our marketing coordinator and designer to develop labels, marketing materials and marketing strategy for our line.

    She may also take on additional responsibilities according to her strengths.

    This position is essential for increasing Awamaki’s capacity and sustainability, as well as connecting our artisans to national and international markets. We will expect the successful candidate to be able to take initiative, collaborate well with her colleagues, and bring enthusiasm and creativity to this role.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage Awamaki’s fair trade store in Ollantaytambo: create visually appealing store displays; tag, restock and inventory product; provide weekly sales reports; organize staff to fill store shifts
    • Manage product development, including facilitating the design process with our wholesale designer; managing design volunteers; planning new products; guiding changes to our store and wholesale lines based on sales and client feedback.
    • Maintain relationships with Cusco-based wholesale customers; visit, show samples, take orders.
    • Support U.S. team by ensuring timely and accurate shipping of wholesale and custom orders from Peru.
    • Work alongside Marketing Coordinator to create sales materials: line sheets, tags, emails and print material.
    • Work with the Designer, Director of Artisan Cooperatives and the Executive Director to calculate material costs and price products
    • Attend weekly team meetings
    • Work a minimum of 9 hours/week staffing the Awamaki store (this is required of all staff and volunteers)

    Required Qualifications:

    • Must be professional, articulate, with excellent customer service and networking skills
    • Minimum 2 years experience in the sales, retail, design or fashion industry (or equivalent education)
    • Experience working or traveling in a developing country
    • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and communication skills
    • Ability to run sales analysis in Excel and create monthly reports to guide stocking, merchandising and product design
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel and Google apps
    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Proficient or advanced English; Proficient or advanced Spanish

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Experience working with designers and the design process
    • Experience working with artisans and/or production process
    • Knowledge of Adobe photoshop and Illustrator preferred
    • Experience working in the Andes or Latin America
