    Job Overview:

    The Senior Staff Accountant plays an integral role in Spirit Rock’s finance department by managing the day-to-day accounting functions. This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the financial records, managing a timely and accurate monthly close process, and preparing financial reports and analyses to support informed decision-making. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical accounting expertise, strong financial analytical skills, and a commitment to the mission of Spirit Rock.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Revenue: Process accounts receivable and cash receipts. Reconcile sales reports following up as necessary. Maintain revenue recognition schedules.
    • Accounts Payable: Ensure teacher compensation is processed in compliance with policies.
    • General Ledger Management: Oversee and maintain the general ledger, ensuring accurate recording of transactions. Reconcile balance sheet accounts, prepare and record journal entries, process cost allocations and maintain fixed asset schedules.
    • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare various financial reports and analysis including variance and trend analysis. Assist with budget preparation. Prepare forecasting and scenario planning.
    • Audit Preparation: Assist with various audits and tax filings. Ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
    • Process Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in financial operations and implement more efficient and effective processes. Research and implement software solutions.
    • Other Projects: Support other projects as requested. Provide backup support for payroll and accounts payable processing.

    Qualifications:

    • Education & Experience:
      • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
      • Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience
    • Skills & Competencies:
      • Strong accounting skills are required. Nonprofit fund accounting experience preferred.
      • Proficiency in accounting software and payment processing systems. Fund-EZ accounting software experience is a plus.
      • Advanced Excel skills required, including complex formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis tools, and financial modeling.
      • Experience in financial system optimization and integration.
      • Demonstrated attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skills.
      • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present financial data clearly.
      • Experience in budget preparation and forecasting.
      • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service and build positive internal and external relationships.
      • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
      • Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse and inclusive community.
      • This role requires speaking and listening for meetings, conference calls, or collaboration with team members and clients.

    Physical Demands:

    • The role involves working at a desk, using a computer, and performing tasks that require prolonged periods of sitting and some repetitive motions.
    • Occasional lifting and carrying files, office supplies, or materials that may weigh up to 5 -15 pounds.
    • The ability to read and review financial documents and reports which may involve reading and reviewing detailed information for extended periods on screens and on paper.

    Hybrid work position with expectation of 3 days per week on site with additional days needed depending on department deadlines.
