    Description

    The Public Benefits Coordinator provides direct and indirect service outreach on public benefits like SNAP and Medicaid, as well as other available area resources, to neighbors who may be experiencing food insecurity in The Friendship Center’s northwest Chicago service area.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provides benefits program outreach and application assistance to clients onsite and at partner organizations and community events, with follow up activity as appropriate
      • Establishes and builds relationships with nontraditional outreach partners, such as hospitals and colleges
      • Disseminates informational handouts about or referrals to other relevant, available community benefits
    • Maintain knowledge and expertise in eligibility, enrollment, and program specifications of the SNAP and similar public benefits initiatives
    • Track site statistics and client interaction, from determination of program and income eligibility requirements to successful connection of qualified individuals to eligible resources
    • Connect our neighbors with area subject matter experts to present on skills and programs helpful to our neighbors as they work to improve their economic circumstances
