    ORGANIZATION

    Partnerships for Trauma Recovery (PTR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to healing the psychological and psychosocial impacts of trauma among international survivors of human rights abuses and forced displacement resulting from war, torture, persecution related to identity and beliefs, gender-based violence and other forms of interpersonal violence. PTR provides culturally and contextually responsive, trauma-informed, and linguistically accessible psychological and psychosocial care for asylum seekers and refugees from around the world.

    POSITION

    This is an exciting opportunity to advance the impact of an innovative nonprofit organization working at the nexus of human rights and global mental health.. The HR Generalist will be responsible for managing a variety of human resources functions. This role is integral in supporting our team and fostering a positive work environment. PTR currently offers a Hybrid model and this position would be required to be in person in Berkeley, CA a minimum of 2 days per week. Specific in-office days may vary based on organizational needs.

    POSITION REPORTS TO

    The HR Generalist position will report directly to the Executive Director and work in collaboration with the Leadership Team.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The responsibilities of the HR Generalist will include but are not limited to the following:

    Employee Payroll and Benefits

    • Manage PTR’s HR platform, ADP, including processing payroll and staff reimbursements.
    • Oversee staff health and other benefit packages; make recommendations to leadership and support staff with their benefit selections.
    • Manage the open enrollment process and provide efficient and timely communication to all staff.
    • Manage staff leave, state and private disability requests and act as liaison between employees and benefit providers to address inquiries and resolve issues.

    Employee Relations

    • Plan and conduct new employee orientation to acquaint staff with PTR policies, HR platforms, and organizational culture.
    • Oversee annual performance review processes, and support managers in facilitating annual performance reviews with their supervisees.
    • Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety and anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and certifications, in collaboration with the management team.
    • Address employee concerns and conflicts promptly.

    HR Policies and Procedures

    • Provide ethical guidance and advice to leadership on HR matters.
    • Maintain and update company HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with CA and federal laws, consulting legal counsel when necessary.
    • Communicate changes in policies to employees and ensure understanding and compliance.

    Employee Recruitment

    • Support the recruiting process including posting jobs, screening resumes for minimum qualifications, tracking recruiting data, conducting prescreen interviews, overseeing, and occasionally participating in panel interviews.
    • Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, background checks, verification of employment, and reference checks.
    • Conduct exit interviews and provide feedback to management.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years experience in an HR department with recruiting experience, preferably for roles in non-profit or health sectors
    • Knowledge of CA HR management best practices, labor laws, and compliance regulations,
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong written and verbal communication abilities.
    • A positive attitude, patience, flexibility, and cultural humility.
    • Ability to set boundaries, practice self-care, and maintain a professional demeanor.

    PREFERRED COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE

    • HR Certified Professional.
    • Experience or knowledge of HRIS (e.g. ADP) and Payroll Programs.
    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Knowledge of or interest in international human rights, and mental health constructs.
    • Experience working with diverse populations, especially international populations.
