    Description

Greater Baybrook Alliance (GBA) is a community development organization whose mission is to act as a catalyst and conduit for equitable development and reinvestment in the Brooklyn, Brooklyn Park, and Curtis Bay neighborhoods and empower our residents to strengthen the Baybrook community. Since 2020, GBA has facilitated a community-led neighborhood safety strategy called the Baybrook Violence Reduction Plan (BVRP).

The BVRP currently engages over 60 community residents and stakeholders to implement various projects, activities, and initiatives to prevent and reduce crime in our neighborhoods. The right candidate will have a proven track record of building trust and working with communities to implement collaborative solutions to complex challenges.

    Purpose:

The Neighborhood Safety Program Manager will work with community members to support and expand the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design component of the BVRP. The Program Manager will work with existing and recruit new community leaders to coordinate and implement projects and programs that activate space within our Violence Reduction Priority Areas (VRPA’s).

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design: a multidisciplinary approach that uses changes to the built and natural environments to reduce and prevent crime opportunities. Key elements include natural surveillance, access control, creating ownership of space, maintenance, and activity support.

VRPA’s: areas in the community identified through qualitative and quantitative data as experiencing a disproportionate amount of firearm violence in the neighborhood.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct ongoing capacity-building and implementation of community-led CPTED and space-activation projects and activities in VRPA’s
      • Meet and build relationships with existing and new community leaders/stakeholders
      • Develop knowledge and familiarity with GBA’s Violence Reduction Priority Areas (‘hot spots’)
      • Recruit and engage new community members to contribute to BVRP activities, with a focus on people with lived experience
      • Support current/active community-led and community-engaged CPTED projects
      • Work with community members to take new project ideas from idea to implementation
      • Track and document projects for grant reporting
      • Gather and submit documentation for project invoicing, payments, and/or reimbursements
    • Coordinate with GBA staff to support their safety-related events and activities
    • Work closely with the economic development team to implement capital components of community-led projects
    • Coordinate efforts and leverage resources with GBA’s capital initiatives (e.g. commercial redevelopment, whole block housing strategy).
    • Develop knowledge and familiarity with organizational funding sources and resources

    Qualifications:

An organized, empathetic, and compassionate community engagement professional with a track record of building trust and collaborating with community members to drive impactful projects.

    Relationship Builder

You believe in our mission and the communities we serve. You build authentic relationships with others (internally and externally) based on mutual trust and respect.

Compassionate and equitable communication: you speak clearly on behalf of the

organization, and advocate for and with the community. You listen and ask questions. You use references that speak to a diverse audience. You build authentic relationships, especially across lines of difference.

Proactively advances equity outcomes: you identify conditions that have a disparate impact on the community and work collaboratively to overcome these conditions.

Strategic, Organized, and Resourceful Program Management

You can quickly understand the subtleties of complex issues and challenges. You always plan, troubleshoot, and keep track of details. You have a strong sense of ownership over your work and are driven to move projects forward. You are good at working independently and can creatively solve problems when you experience setbacks, but you also know how and when to seek help.

Manages a high volume of work efficiently: You have or can create a system to keep

things from slipping through the cracks. You have a good sense of timelines and budgets. You can develop an understanding of organizational capacity and other resources.

    Skilled Capacity Builder

You inspire and motivate others to act on what they care about. You can communicate a clear vision based on our organizational mission and community plans. You listen closely to community members and partners and can work with them to develop insightful, pragmatic, equitable, and sustainable ways to tackle common challenges and produce positive change. You can identify when and what type of support community members need to implement their ideas and achieve their goals. You approach leadership with a mindset of “power with” rather than “power over”
