    POSITION PURPOSE

    The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine’s (CMTM) has 40+ regular employees

    (part-time and full-time) and 25+ temporary employees, including interns and volunteers.

    This position is part of an Administrative team that includes the Executive Director,

    Deputy Director, a part-time HR Associate, and a separate finance team who can

    support HR tasks. The Deputy Director and Executive Director handle the majority of

    interpersonal conflicts. This role oversees the employee lifecycle systems, from

    recruitment and hiring to payroll and benefit support, including offboarding. This position

    upholds CMTM’s systems of employee support in an equitable and legally compliant

    way.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    • Management: Supervises HR Associate (1 part-time team member)
    • Recruitment: Manages job postings and job applicant data organization; responds to job applicant inquiries.
    • Employee records: Maintains personnel records and sets up new records.
    • Benefits: Manages benefits administration and plans, including workers’ compensation, and ensures compliance with reporting and regulations; oversees open enrollment; works with employee benefits insurance agents. Note: CMTM uses the Ease platform.
    • Payroll: Manages payroll functions, including processing bi-weekly payroll and supporting staff (management and non-management) through the process; implements wage structure and longevity systems. Note: CMTM uses the ADP Workforce Now platform.
    • Onboarding: Develops and leads employee programs for all HR-related items, including payroll orientation, personnel policies, accommodations, and other HR needs.
    • Training: Provides training for other team managers to ensure equitable and compliant hiring and offboarding processes are followed.
    • Documentation: Prepares reports, employment memos, and other documentation relating to employee accommodations and concerns (including OSHA reporting).
    • Performance reviews: Prepares materials for performance reviews.
    • Safety: Evaluates employee safety protocols, supports the preparation of safety manuals, and prepares staff incident reports and workers compensation claims
    • Policies and Procedures: Supports the development of equitable pay systems, employee policies, hiring practices and policies, and other applicable policies, practices, and procedures.
    • Updates employee and volunteer handbooks.
    • Conducts one weekly floor walk (visitor focused).
    • Participates in various forms of professional development.
    • Participates in annual reviews.
    • Support CMTM’s Strategic Plan and Goals through actions as identified by the team and supervisor.
    • Perform other duties as identified by supervisor.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    • Certifications such as SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP, or other professional certifications, are highly preferred.
    • A combination of education and experience in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • Flexible thinking.
    • Knowledge of Maine and Federal employment-related laws and regulations.
    • Proficiency in ADP Workforce Now a plus.
    • Proficiency in Ease a plus.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

    SCHEDULE

    20 hours per week; M, T, W, Th, & F (hours to be mutually determined)

    Note: CMTM processes payroll on Wednesdays (Tuesdays on holiday weeks)

    COMPENSATION

    This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

    $25.77/hour plus $5,000 annual benefit pay which can be used toward a cafeteria plan

    of benefits, including health insurance (two options, HSA available), dental insurance,

    vision insurance, life insurance, short and long-term disability, critical illness insurance,

    accident insurance, 403B (retirement) plan contributions, and/or HSA contributions.

    Benefit pay may also be taken as pay in lieu of benefits.

    Additional benefits include:

    • snacks, tea & coffee available daily onsite

    CMTM has an equitable system of pay that offers a base rate based on position and

    longevity pay increases over time. This system is designed for equity and as such we do

    not have the ability to negotiate the compensation listed above.
