    Organizational Overview

    The Massachusetts Coalition for Domestic Workers (MCDW) mission is to bring justice and dignity to all domestic workers in our state. Founded in 2010, MCDW was the driving force in passing the MA Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights, which established important labor standards and granted basic protections to nannies, housekeepers, and other in-home caregivers. With the passage of the Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights behind us, our focus now is the implementation of the new law and continued advocacy on behalf of domestic workers. The Coalition is currently comprised of the following organizations: the Brazilian Women's Group, the Dominican Development Center, Brazilian Worker Center, the Women’s Institute for Leadership Development, Matahari Women Workers Center, La Esperanza Centro de Trabajadoras and Hand in Hand.

    Position Summary The Program Manager is responsible for implementing the programs of the Coalition and for building the Coalition by bringing in new members and developing new partnerships. We are looking for an individual with excellent people skills and an ability to both work alone and be part of a team. The ideal candidate for this job is enthusiastic about our mission, resourceful, a good problem solver and organized. Assuring a steady completion of workload in a timely manner is key to success in this position.

    Responsibilities

    Programmatic Responsibilities:

    • Assist Steering Committee in developing a comprehensive action plan based on results of their planning process.
    • Support the work of the La Esperanza Workers Leaders by providing mentoring and coaching.
    • Build the membership and scope of the Coalition by developing relationships with other Worker Centers and similar organizations, as well as individual domestic workers around the state.
    • Coordinate and facilitate coalition meetings and communicate effectively with members to promote collaboration, negotiation, and problem solving.
    • Assist Steering Committee and Worker Leaders in planning, coordinating, and conducting educational and training activities.
    • Collaborate and work closely with legislators, academic institutions, and community-based organizations to promote the coalition's mission and goals.
    • Assist Steering Committee in developing and distributing marketing and media materials.
    • Assist Steering Committee in promoting the coalition mission by advocating for supportive policies/legislation at state/federal levels.
    • Manage the work activities of volunteers and interns, as needed.

    Other Responsibilities:

    • Design and manage regular communication, internal and external.
    • Support regular social media engagement (creating content and posting on social media)
    • Maintain and update MCDW web site
    • Staff committees (taking notes and sending out communications and reminders)
    • Help with physical setup and take-down of events (must be able to lift 30 lbs)
    • Staff events to support operations and coordination
    • Assist Steering Committee in fundraising, including maintaining and strengthening relationships with current funders and developing relationships with new funders
    • Assist Steering Committee in preparing program and project budgets

    Qualifications

    The ideal Candidate will have:

    • Experience in community organizing and/or labor organizing
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer skills
    • Proficiency in Social media
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Zoom event management experience
    • English proficiency required
    • Spanish and/or Portuguese proficiency is greatly preferred but not required
    • Must be able to travel around the state. Occasionally has to attend meetings out of state

    Physical Demands/Work Environment

    The hours and location are flexible upon approval from the Steering Committee, but the candidate must be available for meetings on weeknights and weekend events. Some in-state travel may be required.

    Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions. Ability to sit and/or for extended periods of time in front of a computer screen is an essential aspect of the position. There may be a need to lift and/or move materials or equipment.

    Location: Eastern Massachusetts based. Must be able to attend in-person meetings from time to time with MCDW members or allies.

    Schedule: Regular Part-time, 20 hours/week. At present the position is temporary, based on current funding.

    Pay

    The pay rate is between $20 and $30/hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include eligibility for the 401K plan which includes a 4% contribution by the employer, and ample paid time off.
