    Description

    Position Title: Affiliate Coordinator

    Position Location: Candidates are welcome to apply from across the U.S., with a preference for those based in either Brooklyn, NY or Washington, DC. Those that are near a CPD office in DC or Brooklyn may be asked to work from a CPD/A office one or two days/week if necessary. Applicants outside of those areas may be required to travel to a CPD/A office occasionally.

    Popular Democracy is seeking an Affiliate Coordinator. This is a full-time, exempt position.

    About Popular Democracy:

    Popular Democracy works to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We work with 50 affiliates in 34 states and DC to build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations that envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. We are a rapidly-expanding, changing organization that partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.

    About the Position:

    We’re seeking an Affiliate Coordinator to join our Network Management Team.

    The Affiliate Coordinator will be responsible for streamlining support to our affiliate organizations. This position will work closely with a range of individuals within and outside of Popular Democracy to coordinate communications, build relationships, and facilitate joint action across our affiliate network and among our array of staff teams. Strong relationship-building skills and follow-through are crucial to this role. It is expected that the Affiliate Coordinator will travel and attend in-person trainings, meetings, and actions with CPD/A affiliates and partners approximately 2-4 times per year.

    We estimate that candidates will have about 6 years of relevant experience, but our review of candidates for this role will focus on whether they can fill the needs of the position, not years of experience.

    This position will report to the Network Manager.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    The Affiliate Coordinator will:

    • Serve as primary relationship holder with affiliate staff, building and maintaining strong individual relationships with affiliates through regular outreach and support.
    • Work with Popular Democracy Co-Executive Directors, senior staff, consultants, and other staff to ensure that affiliates are supported to meet our standards, and have a strategic and cohesive network experience.
    • Track and streamline communications and interactions with affiliate organizations, using Popular Democracy’s database infrastructure and other tools.
    • Create systems for intra-departmental communication, data tracking infrastructure, and rules of engagement for Popular Democracy staff in our engagement of affiliates.
    • Engage the Popular Democracy Network in opportunities for shared learning and action by driving affiliate staff and member turnout to priority events, convenings, and programming.
    • Track any follow-up, deliverables, and unresolved questions from meetings and projects with Popular Democracy affiliates and ensure that the work progresses.

    The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

    • Experience organizing individuals into action, conducting mobilizations, and tracking data in support of progressive organizing efforts;
    • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining relationships across lines of difference, as well as across departments, teams, coalitions, or other formations with varying power dynamics;
    • The ability to solve problems and a strong sense of ownership over tasks, including follow-through and ability to effectively plan and prioritize when faced with competing deadlines;
    • Ability to manage a high volume of work efficiently without sacrificing quality;
    • Project management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail;
    • Experience with EveryAction, AirTable, Salesforce and the Microsoft and Google program suites;
    • Deep alignment with Popular Democracy’s theory of change, which focuses on building a strong and powerful base of people;
    • Willingness to have moderate travel schedule;
    • A commitment to social, racial, and economic justice and a deep understanding of challenges facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities, communities of color, disabled people, LGBTQ+ folks, and people at the intersections of the above communities.

    Hiring Process:

    Candidates should expect to participate in three rounds of group interviews and a job simulation exercise. Final candidates will be asked to provide references.
