    Description

    The National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA) seeks a proactive and creative

    attorney to act as the organization’s first Litigation Director. The new Director will develop

    and implement litigation strategies, including co-counseling impact cases, targeted

    amicus briefs, and representative actions, that advance the interests of consumers and

    consumer advocates.

    Director’s duties:

    • Build a litigation effort that focuses on Identifying, investigating, preparing, and participating in significant and innovative lawsuits that effectively promote consumer justice and create new opportunities for private and public consumer attorneys.
    • Develop litigation priorities in collaboration with NACA’s Executive and Senior Policy Directors and coordinate the role of litigation in NACA’s overall advocacy plan.
    • Track and monitor important consumer protection litigation
    • Seek out co-counseling opportunities in matters where NACA’s involvement can positively impact consumer law.
    • Build and staff a committee of NACA members to develop an amicus brief strategy that supports the work of consumer attorneys in federal and state courts.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with existing and potential supporters and partners in the consumer law community.
    • Organize, lead, and present at workshops, conferences, webinars and other training sessions for consumer lawyers.
    • Support NACA’s broader advocacy projects, primarily on issues that impact effective litigation including court reform, forced arbitration and limitations on attorney fees.

    Qualifications:

    • Law degree and admission to the bar in at least one state.
    • At least 5 years of complex litigation experience in consumer cases or closely related public interest cases.
    • Demonstrated litigation experience in both state and federal courts, including familiarity with appellate practice.
    • Outstanding writing, analytical, and litigation skills, including a demonstrated ability to analyze and write about complex legal issues.
    • Consumer law expertise preferred.
    • A demonstrated commitment to advocating for the public interest.
    • Outstanding communication and advocacy skills.
    • The ability to think creatively, be strategic, collaborate with other attorneys in our community, and exercise good judgment.
    • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Compensation:

    Competitive salary depends on experience (beginning salary starts at $125,000) and a

    benefits package that includes employer-paid medical insurance; employer-subsidized

    family health coverage; generous paid time off; employer-paid life and long-term disability

    insurance; and a 401k Retirement Plan.

    Location:

    NACA is headquartered in Washington, D.C. but is open to filling this position with the right

    candidate wherever they may reside in the United States. The role would be primarily

    remote with occasional in-person meetings
