    LOCATION

    PLIA’s Administrative office is in Albuquerque, NM, with retail operations and agency partnerships in New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas. Applicants would ideally live in or relocate to the Albuquerque area to supervise administrative and education staff. However, partially remote work and residing in other areas of the Southwest Region may be considered for the right candidate.

    ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

    The Public Lands Interpretive Association (PLIA) is a not-for-profit cooperating association working in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the USDA Forest Service (USDA FS) in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. PLIA works to inspire and educate the public about the natural and cultural heritage resources of America’s public lands by providing information, products, and services at visitor centers and online. Proceeds from retail sales enable PLIA to support interpretation and educational programs for public land agencies to collaboratively enhance the visitor experience and provide opportunities to enjoy recreational opportunities on public lands.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership and strategic direction for PLIA, in alignment with the mission and goals defined by its Board of Directors. They will have an opportunity to lead an organization with a 44-year history that has diverse revenue streams and a direct impact on public lands in the Southwest Region. The requirements of this position encompass several different priorities – ranging from staff supervision to maintaining agency partnerships, overseeing financial management and fundraising activities, as well as seeking opportunities to strengthen and expand existing earned income operations and educational and interpretive programs. Additionally, the Executive Director will be expected to provide a fresh perspective on the operations of the organization, as well as develop and implement strategies for improvement. PLIA’s Board of Directors is seeking a forward-leaning leader who will position PLIA as a powerful, effective, mission-driven, and resilient organization that can support the evolving needs and roles as a cooperative partner to public lands.

    AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Evaluate, and determine strategies, plans, and metrics of success for PLIA, and lead the organization’s operations to execute the strategic plan determined in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
    • Inspire, lead, mentor, develop, and supervise PLIA’s staff.
    • Foster and grow relationships with agency partners, elected officials, and other mission-aligned organizations, businesses, associations, coalitions, and communities.
    • Manage the finances and budget to make sound decisions for the organization.
    • Fundraise and grow PLIA’s network to increase revenue from diverse sources.
    • Grow, strengthen, and support the Board of Directors.
    • Other priorities and duties will be determined in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
