    Position Overview: The Clothing Room Program Coordinator is an integral player in a small but mighty team working hard each day to make life better for thousands of New Yorkers who are struggling to survive.

    The Clothing Room Program Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the successful ongoing operations of the Clothing Room which includes: supervising and guiding volunteers, sourcing and coordinating donations, organizing and maintaining the clothing room closet, and collaborating with partner organizations.

    This a part-time position working an average of 20-25 hours per week.

    The Clothing Room Program Coordinator reports to the Director of Outreach.

    Main Responsibilities:

    • Ensure organization and upkeep of the Clothing Room closet, as well as all the storage bins/cabinets in the vestibule.
    • Collect unusable donations and coordinate pick-ups with our partner org, Helpsy, a textile recycling company.
    • Supervise and direct Clothing Room volunteers in sorting and organizing donations and distributing items to guests.
    • Work with schools, individuals, and corporations to organize clothing & toiletry drives to benefit the Clothing Room.
    • Conduct outreach aimed at bringing in-kind donations from major clothing/toiletry companies into the Clothing Room.
    • Partner with other non-profit organizations and corporations to run special events (ie Professional Clothing “suiting” Days, Winter Boot distributions, etc)
    • Work with Director of Outreach to ensure smooth operation of Sunday programs (Clothing Room and Welcome Table), and provide backup for Welcome Table when Director is absent.

    Qualities/Qualifications:

    • Relevant work experience with similar clientele and volunteers in non-profits, social work, Peace Corps/other volunteer service, or a related field strongly preferred.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, social policy, theology, psychology, or a related field strongly preferred.
    • Passion and interest in Xavier Mission’s mission and values.
    • Compassionate and understanding.
    • Ability to engage effectively and work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including guests, volunteers, staff, and partners.
    • Ability to engage effectively with many different personalities.
    • Calm under pressure.

    • Strong oral and written communication skills, including strong email & phone communication skills
    • English fluency required; proficiency in Spanish/Portuguese/French/French Creole a plus
    • Must be able to work in-person on Sundays, at least one evening a week, and occasionally other weekends/evenings.

    Requirements:

    • This is a part-time position averaging 20-25 hours per week.
    • Must be available in-person on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays of each month to coordinate and facilitate Clothing Room distribution days.
    • Must be available to work on certain evenings and weekends to coordinate planned donation sorting days and special events with partner organizations.

    Essential Physical Demands:

    The person in this position:

    • Must be able to navigate a large space where most of our programs are conducted.
    • Frequently moves large bags and boxes of donations of varying weights and sizes.
    • Frequently communicates with staff, donors, volunteers, and clients and must be able to exchange accurate information in these interactions.
