    Description

    Summary:

    The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of the organization in accordance with adopted policies and bylaws. This position directly supports the mission, goals, objectives, strategic plans and development of the Galveston Island Humane Society (GIHS). This person serves as the spokesperson in the community.

    Essential Duties and Functions:

    Responsible for the development, oversight and monitoring of all shelter departments and programs. This includes:

    • monitoring existing programs for effectiveness and recommended changes
    • managing and assisting supervisors
    • developing long range plans and strategies
    • providing leadership direction and guidance
    • conducting day to day functions of the shelter

    Public/Community Relations, Fund Development:

    Represents the shelter as the chief spokesperson.

    Responsible for the oversight of the GIHS’s fund raising and marketing.

    Provides opportunity for community support through volunteer, foster and fundraising opportunities.

    Administers fiscal management programs.

    Meets regularly with the Board of Directors and assists the various committees in achieving their specific assignments.

    Serves as liaison with legal affairs and GIHS’s business associates.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Commitment to the mission, values, goals and success of the GIHS.

    Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Sound judgement, time management and organizational skills.

    Ability to successfully supervise, lead, unite and inspire staff.

    Strong computer skills, including social media programs.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum 5 years of experience in a non-profit setting – preferably animal welfare.

    Record of continually increasing responsibilities with measurable results.

    Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
